Bravo!

Yep - I had 1000 seedlings with the plan being to help put Dorian through college. Anyone who has grown palms knows the plan doesn't always pan out - little things like freezes and market conditions. :( Not to mention labor, pots/soil, fertilizer, and water. I lost half when still in liners during one freeze. And when I started, I think Howeas were going for about $125-$175/ft. But they are still one of my favorite palms for ease of growth, ease to transplant, and beauty.

Nice score! Water them well and dont be surprised to see them burn for the first year. I bought some in full sun from a more coastal grower and planted them only a few miles inland in Vista and they still burned.

Its early days yet, but I dug 2 with 2ft and 4 ft trunk respectively one year ago when they were clearing a neighbours yard. I put them in large 40" pots and watered very heavily. Then 1 month ago I planted them. They are doing well and pushing leaves. The weather has been consistently in the 30C to 35 C every day fro 2 months, so its a long warm summer and ideal conditions for the palms to re-establish. However I am not under any illusions: I expect we will only know after several years if they will prosper.
