I know these won't see sun in habitat but has anyone tried one in sun or part sun? Any other cultivation experiences/recommendations welcome.

cheers

Richard

Greetings,

I have a couple in near full sun in Southern California.

It took a couple of years for them to harden off, but now there seems to be no problem.

Good luck,

Tom

Thanks guys, that's tremendously helpful!

That is helpful!

I've got a few myself, nowhere as large as the one in the picture.

Still babies.

How long to harden off and what sizes did you start?

Hi Dave,

I planted them out when they were full 5 gallon size. They came out of a shadehouse with 50% and were planted out in late summer. Also I also place a bunch of cut off 3-4 foot pieces of QUeen Palm around stuff when I plant them out in sort of a corral fashion. That provides a little sun protection and ,as it weathers it exposes the plant to a little more sun in a gradual way. It is a trick I have used with great sucsess for years. That said, they still burned for a while and as I said above, it was perhaps two full years until the new leaves would take full sun without damage. But now, well, all is well.

Good luck with yours !

Be well,

Tom
