Jeff Marcus Audio/Video Garden Tour Ready

Recommended Posts

Posted

The first installments of the Marcus Garden Tour 2012 are ready for viewing on Palmpedia. They include Dypsis Part 1, Dypsis Part 2, and a New Caledonia installment. Each show is approximately a half hour long - so plan accordingly.

Jeff is passionate about his palms, but is also committed to providing educational material for others. So we should all be grateful he is willing to take the time and effort to share his knowledge and garden with us.

For those familiar with the Tour we did three years ago, I don't need to say more. For those who are not, there have been over 10,000 views since the last shows have been available for viewing.

I think I'll mic you up when you drop by, and we'll see how smooth you sound when you know the entire world will be able to scrutinize every word you say for eternity. :)

These "shows" have given me a much greater appreciation for politicians that get "caught" saying something goofy or stupid and then get crucified (or lose an election) because of it.

Of Course - just trying to also explain why I may sound like a dweeb at times. :) There is a bit of 'stage fright' when you realize who you are "talking" to.

It's so much easier reviewing and editing things here before posting. And even then it's possible to screw up - isn't it? :)

Just watched the first part on dypsis. It was really awesome. I definately have to get a couple of the blue decipians when Jeff gets seed of that one. It has to be one of my top two or three favorite dypsis, and if it grows in so cal as well as regular decipians, that will be great.

You've got that right Gary. I used to think it was "just" a DD, but when you see it now with the even more pronounced pendulous basal leaflets - if it is, it is certainly a very distinct variation.

I remember several years ago Dean i fought on palmtalk about that palm as being something different, but i was universally shot down. If it is decipians it is a bizaar type. Who knows, maybe its a hybrid? I sure didnt see anything similar in habitat, and i saw a lot of them.

Outstanding! I very nearly didn't bother because of our terrible bandwidth issues but this streamed perfectly. It's going to take a few views of each to absorb all that information. Great to see Palmpedia realising its full potential. Many thanks.

Nice job Dean. I have to get over there and see Jeff's garden in person one of these days

I am not sure if anyone has seen a yard by the beach in Leucadia owned by a man named Phil (I think). He had a trunking Decipiens looking thing that was very blue and had an orange crownshaft when the leaf base came off. Very similar to the one Marcus has.

Thanks, that is critical information, and what I was striving for. Some improvements in the software (both audio and video), along with some new techniques I discovered, allowed me to reduce the file size quite a bit with minimal reduction in quality. So I really appreciate you letting me know.

Finally taking a few minutes to digest these... WOW Thanks Dean, Jeff and Suchin!!! I just watched the New Caledonia one and am bowled over! First off, unlike several other tours of places, I'm usually , thinking "yeah, but they won't grow here.." But I CAN grow these and Have or had most all of These!!! (tomentosa, adiosa :( ) But I'll even hope to try that again...Some even grow at a great clip too!Now.. on to DYPSIS! (well soon...)oh, btw.. at first when I clicked on the vid, went black screen and said "done" at the bottom... I waited a min or so, and nothing.. It locked up my IE Windows 7?... I then reloaded the page, it said it "repaired it" and started over.. from then on, all was fine.

Meant nothing by it, I may just be a little ignorant as to the potential fun between a man and his computer... If I didn't have a desk job, I would prolly never be on one.

I just had the pleasure of spending the day with Jeff and his garden yesterday. A few things stood out on this visit.

1) the growth after the last visit two years ago is just incredible. The care put into managing such a huge project can only be done on the backs of those that truly love palms. From fighting off banana moth and fungus to bagging inflorescences to cleaning debris, etc it is amazing what Jeff and Suchin have done.

2) even though Jeff must tour his garden countless times with other guest, he put aside many hours the day before Thanksgiving and on Suchin's birthday to take me around. I never felt rushed or like Jeff was tired of showing a guest his garden.

3) shopping at Jeff's for me is the Holy grail. You never know what you might find and I did find some sweet stuff. ;)

Thanks to Dypsis Dean for driving Kona to Hilo and back with me and hanging around all day in a garden you have seen many times. Long day but much appreciated. :)
