I'm trying to learn the different spp. of Rhapis. Hover over each photo for the species name. Yes, one hybrid snuck in there too. Please add your photos! Perhaps the variegated R. excelsa varieties warrant their own thread?

Nice plants. There's also that bunch of species. I had at least two Rhapis excelsa plants fail to thrive and die (I've seen this happen elsewhere in town, too), while R. laosensis, R. subtilis, and R. multifida have thrived. R. excelsa isn't necessarily a lost cause in Florida--there's big clumps in town, at Heathcote Botanical Gardens in Ft. Pierce, and even bigger at Leu Gardens in Orlando.

Central Orlando's urban heat island may be warmer than us

I am a bit of a rhapis fan also.

I live in Sydney. I have lots of excelsa in the ground, and about 3 clumps of humilis in the ground and 2 pots of it. Thats real humilis, really tall, towers over excelsa.

I have had problems with excelsa, where the top growth just shrivels and dies, and its easily pulled out, so that stem dies. Maybe overwatering.
