Recently a post string discussed the beauty of Dypsis lutescens especially when a single stem. I went palm shopping this morning looking for a number of things but not necessarily for a lutescens. Well I turned the corner and saw this and had to have it.

Here are two shots of the beautiful crownshaft. I think I am going to buy a couple more as I have found Dypsis saintelucei just to be a really tough grow here in San Diego. I have heard others say the same thing. The photos:

Looks like it's already starting to sucker, so you'll soon have two stems.

Yep, it's just starting to sucker; you can trim them off to get the look you want. Regarding St. Lucei, they grow well here, but they don't like being over-watered & they don't really like being in pots for a long time.

Well it's not a single stem lute that's for certain. Are you aware they do exist ? In fact I'm hoping I have one growing, I was told it was grown from a single stem seed, we'll see.
