Boy, that's wierd!

Bagworms are caterpillars that make this "bag" of debris they wear like a coat.

If you can see the bugs, and reach them, I'd take a coathanger wire and stick it in each hole and squish the expletives.

It's cheap, organic and sustainable.

If the wire treatment isn't practical (palm is really tall, or holes really deep) you can try spraying with something mild like malathion or sevin, or nasty like systemics (such as imlocoprid or acephate). I try to avoid using poisons because they also annihilate (temporarily) helpful insects like bees, and they also pollute. That said, bug killers, used sparingly, when you have to, is okay.

Let us know what you do and how it works.

Bagworms are lepidopterous larvae that on eat only leaf tissue...they lack the proper mouth parts to bore through woody tissue.

.........in either event, the holes shown in you pics are inconsistant with wood boring insects, in that they are ragged, discoloured, and lacking frass.

Dave, I have sprayed sevin on the bagworms but only on the lower half of the palm it is a large palm 15ft+ I wait and see what happens.

Rusty, I agree with the bagworms eating greens but they are in every large hole. Maybe something else bored the hole and the bagworms just set up home in there?

Anyone have this problem or seen it?

Looks like bagworms crawled into the holes to pupate, though they usually just attach themselves to a branch to do that.

I wouldn't worry too much. A healthy plant can handle getting its leaves chewed a bit. Grasshoppers LOVE Pritchardias, and the Pritchies handle it fine. Sabals are even tougher.

You got it Empireo....you got bagworms, and you got holes, but the bagworms arent the culprit....they do have a dispersal stage when their numbers are high, which may account for them crawling everywhere...even in the holes.... :D
