Spear pulled from borassas 2 weeks ago. Green leaf and spears of cocothrinax looked fine until this week when it all of a sudden dried up so I pulled them out...Rot on both, consider both dead.

just a note: C readii= C argentata

Actually it is a valid species, according to Kew. But I have read that it looks similar to C. argentata.

aztropic, what is current status of your C. readii & Borassus? Hope you haven't dug them up. My two Coccothrinax pulled spears after Jan. 2 freeze but both are coming back w/3 fronds each. I thought they were dead but had read to give them at least 5-6 months before giving up on them.

Sorry to see the losses. I would like to add that there is a Borassus flabellifer in south Tampa that's over 30' tall that I'm pretty sure lived through the freezes of the 80s. They obviously get tougher with size and age, and I think you should try another one in AZ. Give it a TON more room though; they get huge.
