I recently returned from my vacation to Negril Jamaica. Since I already posted a full Negril thread in the travel section last year, this year I'm only going to post palm photos. There's not a big selection available in this part of Jamaica so people tend to plant more of the native palms (except for a few of the usual suspects).

Coconut and a Thrinax

It's nice to see a few coconuts gaining some size after lethal yellowing wiped out most of the Jamaican Talls.

More Thrinax photos. I'm not sure of the species. From what I understand, T. parviflora, T. radiata, and T. excelsa grow on the island.

I believe these are Roystonea princeps. They look just like the Royals I saw last year growing in the Royal Palm Preserve. I really like these palms a lot. They have slimmer trunks (no bulge) and a smaller and sparser crown than the Cuban Royals.

Sabal sp. - Years ago I remember John Bishok telling me about some massive Sabals growing in Negril.

I wonder if these are the ones he was referring to?

Looks like a nice vacation Jeff, you needed a break from that rigorous lifestyle you lead. Love the photos of the Thrinax and R. princepts.

Negril - one of my favourite places in the world!

True what you say about the limited number of species. It wasn't always that way, though. Before Hurricane Andrew, there was quite a larger variety.

Love the Jamaican Royal also. Don't think my Cuban Royal will be a convenient resident in my small garden much longer. I have a Jamaican Royal I got from John in Spain ( one of two I had purchased ) that I think will be around a lot longer.
