I was on the roof taking the Christmas lights down on Sunday. (Too bad the real mountains were obscured by clouds.)

The first image is of the most prominent geographic item in Oceanside. Known as "The Sleeping Indian", from the center of Oceanside it actually looks like one, but from my roof east of their it's a bit distorted. Morro Hill on the left is the head. In the Ozarks we would have named it "Tater Knob".

The second image is of Guajome Marsh and Lake, pretty close to my house. (Palms are coming...)

The next image is looking West. My queen palm dominates, but just below it is a Caryota urens.

Image 2 is the Caryota when I planted it in the Fall of 2006.

Image 3 is that Caryota today, just starting to take off. 2 months after I planted it was our January 07 freeze, and it took a year to recover.

I planted this Livistona decora in Spring 2007, wanting to add more coldhardy palms. I got it as a 15 gallon, and the first photo is from Fall 2007. The second photo was taken today.

Here's my big royal when I planted it in Fall of 2006, after having it in a pot for a couple years. The second image is from this morning.

I picked up the A. alexandrae "beatrice" miss-labeled as a King palm at a big box store as a 15 gallon in the Fall of 2007. It's growth rate is WAY slower than the one I planted as a 3 gallon size, which has now past it in height.

Here is an Archontophoenix maxima (thanks MattyB) and A. cunninghamiana "Illawara" I planted as soon as they went pinnate this Summer. They have already grown a lot, I'm hoping they take off next year. I have a number of alex and maximas in the greenhouse that should be ready to plant out this Spring. Not going to plant them now when I'm in the 30s most nights.

I''ll post more before and afters tomorrow...need to take a few more afters.

More recent plantings: Foxtail grouping planted last year, and a Burretiokentia hapala I planted as 3-gallon 2 years ago. Much faster than expected and in full shade until it clears the roof line. The rain has mucked this area up, and I ran out of mulch...)

Posting pics randomly here...

My two Lowes Teddy Bears planted 2 years ago, and kicking out trunk big time now.

The next photo is a Royal triple. The one on the right is a borinquena. They are in full blast sun all day. They look like like crap right now but I'm betting they look great in their after photo in 2 years.

More photos to come...
