I don't know if I'd call that "weeping" (it almost looks stiffer), but it sure is weird! Almost looks like it has a little Teddy bear palm in it (which I'm sure is impossible...)

When walking back from a repair shop last week I noticed a very golden leafed coconut growing in the grounds of Tully train station .

Does the Golden Malay form have golden foliage as well as petioles and fruit ?

Michael in palm paradise,

Tully, wet tropics in Australia, over 4 meters of rain every year.

Home of the Golden Gumboot, its over 8m high , our record annual rainfall.

The Niuyabia or "weeping" coconut probably look incredible as juveniles! Do any photos of them exist at that stage?

I'm always up for learning new things!

My only 'Niuyabia' sprout is crunchy and brownish right now (winter is rough!), but there is a new spear pushing... Still looks like normal bifid coconut leaves (only germinated spring 2010) but I'm certain the next leaves are going to start showing adult characteristics... I'll try to remember to snap some pics this spring, but if I forget YELL AT ME!
