First snowfall of 2010...

Hello! It's been a VERY long time. I just wanted to update all of you that last night was our first big-ish snowfall. It's gotten down to 10F before it snowed, and my needle palm was still showing green. I just woke up, but it looks like my needle palm has turned brownish! It might just be my eyes or all the snow, but I don't know yet. Sorry, I don't have a good enough picture. Taking it from my room is just horrific.

What should I do?

Welcome back Jason, shouldn't this be in Discussing Palm Trees Worldwide? A picture helps too..

Jason, have to agree with Jonathan, moving this post would give it better exposure, and hence perhaps a resolution to your problem....

.....but your problem is immediate, right now, so just a stab at it...

Pile snow on top of your Rapidophylum, as much as you can find, at least for now...32 degrees it can handle, and snow will insulate it from lower temps.

I would recommend against trying to increase it's micro-clime in huge increments, at least in the short term. without the added application of crown fungicides-bactericides..

Best of luck..it's too early for a postmortem, don't give up hope just yet.....

Woww, I haven't been protecting it... at all, there's no snow on it because it's a 3 gallon I was scared the snow would make it collapse. But IT'S STILL ALIVE!

Could this be the hardiest palm tree alive?

my best wishes that your needle palm survives jason! i think that you should try also with sabal minor mcCurtain palm. second hardest palm after needle palm.

these both species are still at my wish list.
