My back yard is starting to get there. I have put a lot of work into this planter the last month or so. I planted five palms, a few bromeiliads and yesterday added the first few Crotons to my yard. Hope you enjoy.

Any IDs on these Crotons. This was labeled as Petra, but it is different from other Petras I have seen.

This did not have a label, but I think it is mammy.

These saw 38F this past week and seem to be doing well.

Your hard work is showing! Well done! :greenthumb: I like the contrast of those colorful crotons with the green of the rest of the plants. It's a very tropical garden. No problem with the weather where you are?

Thanks all. As far as the weather here goes. I am zone 10B and don't get below 40F very often. We'll see how the Crotons do after this winter. They are the most tender plant I have.

Looks nice, move the Roystonea Regia while it's still small or you will regret it when the huge fronds come crashing down on your house.

Thank you for the compliments everyone.

Redant I have given some thought to the Royal fronds, but I am going go go with it for now. I have seen some with the fronds tied up to prevent this, so I might try that.

Aaron,

Really nicely layed out! In picture # 1 what's the palm just to the left of the hose? (Maybe Dypsis saintelucie?) You've got a jungle in the making...

Have you seen the 6 Royal Palms planted in 2002 in planters at the exit of the San Diego Zoo? They were very small(virtually no trunk) when planted, now they have gigantic trunks and are almost too large for the big planters (especially the middle planter).

Here's a pic.

Bret,

There are actually three palms in the pic. The one next to the hose is Chamadorea radicalis. Behind it is Cryosophila warscewiczii and there is a one gallon Chambeyronia hookerii under the Ti plants.

Palms 1984,

I have seen those royals many times, that is part of the reason I wanted one.

I have collected several tons of rock from San Ellijo hills and purchased several more tons from a rock place out in Temecula (I don't remember the name). They start at around $100 a ton if you pick them up your self. I also see them for sale on Craigs list all the time.

Vince,

Unfortunately it died recently. I was suffering from some nutrient deficiency that I couldn't correct and it finally died recently. I have another healthy one that is going in the same spot this spring.
