It hit here at 29F last night. Weather Underground is predicting 31F tonight but Weather Channel predicts 26F. What is happening in your area?

Yup, It hit 29f in my backyard too. Only damage appears to be to banana leaves. All my palms still look good.

Today is a carbon copy of yesterday with a low of 31F and a high of 57F, Who knows what tonight will bring. Seems like this cold is hanging around a long time.

Today was better, 31F here, so not too bad. I'm trying to convince myself this is NOT a sign of things to come.

Over in Rocklin we hit 27/28 TWICE with temps under 30 for many hours. Bananas are roasted but still have very green p-stems so I expect them to recover easily.

Phoenix Roebelenii - Unprotected & no burn

dypsis lutescens - frost cover & only burn on the top

Chamaedorea cataractarum - Unprotected & no burn

Howea forsteriana - frost cover & very minimal damage

Archontophoenix cunninghamian var illawarra - frost cover & damaged... One group is looking rather dark today but with portions of green. Hope they recover!

Also I have a trunking Arecaceae ravenea that appears green, but it might be too soon to tell

This morning was my lowest yet at 29.8F and more ice in the rain bucket. My high today was only 59F and briefly. Clouds moving in this evening and an expected low tonight of 40F, and rain tomorrow. If this cold air mass had hit us around Xmas, it could have been much worse.

2000 feet elevation Rough and Ready CA: Saturday 18th/Sunday morning 19th light dusting of snow and 31 deg. Melted by morning. Wednesday morning 26 deg F. White frost. Thursday morning 28 deg F dry freeze. Friday morning better, 30 deg F. Was finishing a new greenhouse this week but not in time. Garage is temporarily stuffed full of seedlings for now. Earliest cold spell since I've lived at this location. And I thought last December's freeze was early. Oh well, that's why I got plenty of Trachies and other frost hungry species to hedge against the marginal varieties I seem to enjoy torturing with this climate.
