The weather was not so good, but the turnout and palms were happenin'.

The Robert de Jong (pogobob) garden has been covered pretty well on PalmTalk, I hope to just fill in the blanks a bit. First wide shots of the front yard.

That last pic was Bob's Decaryi X Leptocheilos, which I coveted above all other palms in his collection. Here is a closeup, plus photos of his Dypsis onilahensis, Dypsis albofarinosa, and Dypsis ambositrae "kindreo".

Now to the backyard, with towering Rhopies, Burretiokentias, Hedyscepes, and Howea. A nice-sized crowd and some familiar faces.

I wasn't expecting so many Cyphophoenix. Included here are elegans, nucele and alba.

I lost count of how many mature Hedyscepe Bob has. Also included here is one of his fatty Rhopalostylis sapida "Chatham Islands".

There were al least 3 species of mature Burretiokentia. Oddly I didn't take any individual photos of the tallest Chambeyronias I've ever seen. I did snap this hiding Pinnanga coronata, something I can't readily ID, and a parting shot of the famous Syagrus "Abreojos".

Great shots Terry of an awesome garden !

I can see alot of familiar faces in the crowd !

The chatham Island Rhopalostylis you mentioned is actually the Rhopalostylis sapida Great barrier island ,the Chatham is on the other side .

Looks like Bob is still wearing his Tassie cascade beer Hat :D

Old Beach ,Hobart
Tasmania ,Australia. 42 " south
Cool Maritime climate

What a great turnout! I didn't think we'd see more than 3 or 4 people, but the weather calmed down and I bet we had maybe 150 show up! Thanks to all who came out and all the nice words and shareing of our passion for palms and plants. Sometimes it's easy to take what you have for granted, but thru shareing with others it can open your eyes and get fresh perpectives of what a fine group of folks we all are! :)

Great stuff at Bobs and Ricks! Thanks again Bob!

Terry, great pix, but I believe Bob corrected us that he does NOT have a C. nucele, the one we thought was, is a elegans, or thats what he got it as...

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

I do some experiments and learning in my garden with palms so you don't have to experience the pain! Look at my old threads to find various observations and tips!

Bob and Rick, thanks for hosting such a great garden tour! What a great turn out.

Thanks for the corrections Troy and Bill. That one Cyphophoenix looked very different (post 4, photo 2). Thanks to a list Ric Luna handed out yesterday, I won't make any mistakes on the next batch. I hope others post more photo of Ric's place, as my batteries died before I was finished. Here goes.

The next major palm you encounter is a nice Rhopy baueri. Please note the smaller palms growing up it's base... It's a Basselinia gracilis planted in '98. Great color.

Continuing along the side of the house is a well-protected, perfect-looking Joey altifrons. Ric has a lot of Chamadoeras growing, and I loved the inflorescense of this one. The third photo is the largest Chambeyronia hookeri I have seen. (It was so dark about this time... I lightened the image and lost the yellow color.)

Another Chamaedorea - Iiked it's "stark singularity". Next is an extremely graceful clumping Laccospadic australasica. The third palm has me stumped. I'm betting it's a Dypsis, but not sure which one it would be from the list provided.

No palm collection is complete without plenty of non-palms around to add contrast and enhance the palmy quality of the palms themselves...

About now is both when my batteries died and it started pouring heavily. Before that I was able to get one photo of the excellent eats, and a photo of Dave auctioning off a Bismarckia. The man was soaked by the time we had to call the auction off.

I hope others took more photos of the Old Man, Koghies, etc.

Yeah, it was good to see you Terry, after a long while. Great pics as usual! Me thinks you need to post some pics of your yard. We haven't seen it for a while. I'm sure things have grown nicely!
