All I know is that it's not hanging out in Hawaii.

Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean.

No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!).

Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil.

Nice sunsets!

Not very comfortable and the dry heat & wind has caused some leaf damage. I never seem to react quickly enough since the past 3 days have been above 90F\ 32.2C and today hit 100F\ 37.7C. Nice cool down this weekend.

I get Ken Clark's blog, and yesterday he posted the following graph. It shows that unlike the misconception that SoCal weather doesn't change, it is much more a place of extremes that average out.

Here's how he closes his blog:

"It has been a roller coaster last 42 days in southern California and that roller coaster continues this weekend. After the heat of the week temperatures will be taking a nose dive this weekend so that by Sunday it will not be out of the 60s. There even could be a shower or two Saturday night."

Winter is here! Or at least a touch of pretty cool temps in areas that remain calm overnight. In-fact the National Weather Service is calling for frost in parts of Central California as well as the high desert tonight and Tuesday night. Strong wind will likely keep minimums above 50F\ 10C for most areas of Southern California.

We're expecting highs in the low 70s Saturday through Tuesday up here. Not too terrible. Lows through mid December will stay well above freezing in the low 40s to low 50s. Hope the rest of the month is this nice.

Winter in the SF Bay Area means rain, and lots of it. Starting Friday and running through next week it looks like solid rain. Forecast models for Los Altos are showing rainfall totals in the 4 to 8" area between Friday and Monday alone. Highs will hover around 60F with lows in the 40s and 50s. As much as I like sunny weather, I'll take rain any day over freezing temperatures!
