Hunter Region Botanic Gardens Australia

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Participated in a conference on the weekend at Hunter Region Botanic Garden just north of Newcastle and Sydney. A garden that is run mainly by volunteers.

At lunch I was able to get away and visit the palm garden.

I have taken a few photos, mainly of Australian species but a few exotics as well.

I was up that way I didn't even know about it. Is it in the Hunter Valley, or closer to the coast?

Hi Stephen

Colin doesn't catch up with people, people have to catch up with Colin.. :D

Colin stayed at my place over the weekend whilst palm attacking raids were carried out constantly culminating in seeing Craig's wonderful garden featuring that palm.

I don't know how many times I have driven past the entrance at Motto Farm / Hexham ? and everytime, we don't have time to stop. Mostly the wife and kids start screaming when I say 'let's stop and look at the palms!'

I usually said to my kids... if you behave while we are looking at palms, we can stop at McDonalds.. It seems to work wonders for them.

A hidden gem Stephen, who would of thought a palm garden was hidden there, thanks for the pictures. A bit of palm therapy is always good when having time out from a conference. helps clear the head.

How old is the garden?

Hi Colin,

The garden is relatively young, 1986. It sits on 140 hectares of land, most of which is undeveloped bushland, which is a nice setting.
