Foxtail help please

Featured Replies

Can you guys give me your opinion on why my new frond is having some parts browning? Overwater, underwatering, too much fert, or sun burn? Its been 90+ here but Ive been watering it daily, so the soil has been moist. Its a new frond thats only two months old on a foxtail thats about twelve feet tall. I know I might be picky about it, but I want to get to the bottom of it before it spreads to the whole thing. Any help would be appreciated. Here is a pic

BTW the brown is all on the side of where the sun shines on that frond, which is making me think sunburn, however on some of the individual leafs its brown from the mid part of the leaf. Doesnt sun burn start at the end of the leaf?

is it the new leaf?if not it looks minimal,i wouldnt worry so much.

Would fertilizer burn start at the ends or would it be through the leaf?

I would say under watered and needs a good fertilizer. 90 degree days should not hurt foxtails unless there on the dry side. Here its been in the upper 90s for months and they don't have a problem.

Fert burn (and most chemical burns) start at the ends of the leaves and work their way inward. Sunburn can occur on any part of the leave that is exposed to sun and is susceptible.

I think its a watering issue as well.

Well right now I'm watering 9 min a day everyday on sprinklers. Seems like a lot to me, but I do have a lot of plants near the base of this palm, so it might be battling for water. Does that sound like too little?

I saw a somewhat similar leaf burn on my potted foxtail, only in mid summer when I didn't water quite quickly enough. I would bet on rapid soil drying in the hot sun. Mine stopped getting worse when I thoroughly watered it again. Water it!

Well, thank you everyone for your replies. It is a great help for a newbie like me to get the feedback from you all with all the experience that you all have. I greatly appreciate all the comments and I will probably hand water a couple times a week to get this palm the amount of water that it needs. I've added some seaweed liquid nutrients to the soil to help out, and probably fertilize soon. With those two things along with the water, I am aiming for it to get to where my other foxtail is, thriving! Hopefully with more time it acclimates well to the enviroment. Thanks again for everyones feedback.
