Repotting Tahina

Featured Replies

Do I have to be aware of any issues when repotting Tahina saplings? Mine is currently in a 2 gallon and a long root has emerged from the pot. I'd like to step it up and disturb it as little as possible.

Thanks,

Ray

No one cares about your current yard temperature 🙃

Ray,

I have potted up quite a few Tahinas and never had a problem. They don't seem to have particularly sensitive roots. Just use standard precaution.

My few potted up fine, but I was VERY careful with them. I potted them into flower buckets that are deep but not too wide (for space reasons) that I drilled holes in the bottom of for drainage. It didn't take long for them to find the bottom.

Best regards

Ray, I've only repotted one Tahina and it has been in a slow decline ever since. The one I planted in the ground has done well, but the one I transplanted into a pot has not opened a new leaf in over 6 months, and it is slowly turning yellow. I still have two more in their original grow bags, but I'm afraid to repot them.

Until you plant it in the ground, the bigger the pot, the better the growth. They surprisingly like copious amounts of organic material.

Definitely agree with Christian's "bigger pot" approach. After I germinated mine in deep containers I put them all in deep 5G pots, and they did very well. No problems moving them. About six months ago, I took the 12 largest ones and moved them up into 10G pots, and those 12 Tahinas are now considerably larger than the ones that are still in 5G pots. I need to move more of them up into 10G pots!
