Well, after status discussion, here is the poll.

This is supposed to be a fun topic!

I think cycads are amazing plants, but in my climate they're hopelessly slow and limited, whereas an amazing palm can grow from 5g to 80 feet in my lifetime, at least.

Palms are my biggest love, but there are many other plants I adore too, cycads are very near the top of that list. Not all of them are pretty...same with palms...but many species are simply breathtaking. My curse in living where I do is that I can't get hydrangeas to thrive. I adore them, wonderful big bushy things with massive flower heads. I like cordylines and crotons, mussaendas and orchids, all of which I have but grow with varying success. Bromeliads are lovely also. The purely tropical effect can look great but to me I prefer a mixture of temperate and tropical flora. I think my ultimate dream would be to have a garden that looked like it was originally temperate but taken over by tropicals...if that makes any sense to anyone else.

There is nothing more exciting (in the plant world...o.k. maybe there is ...)than watching a Cycad

flush, such a great amount of growth in a few short weeks, while palms give joy throughout the growing season.

I was telling a friend I have everything I need now,so not many more palms to buy-

of course this wasn't true and I got many more palms.........................

and the I ran across some Enchepalartos Cycads!

This is a Cycad that I am sure I will be collecting for years and the cost of some ensures that I won't be

buying to many right away,so.....................no versus for me,I find they complement each other nicely!

Both are fascinating!

However, I like palms for my garden better. They're faster to grow, though some cycads are also fast.

If done properly in a garden Palms and Cycads accent one another very well.
