What a boring game between Brasil and Portugal, hope to see more of Ronaldo's quality because till know i'm defitnely not impressed and my expectations where quite high about him, he is the star from Portugal at the moment.

Today the first matches of the next round, I guess Uruguay and hopefully the USA will go a round further.

Brasilien players were always forgiven by the referee.

Against Ivory Coast, the same, the referee was blind.

It turns things dificult to a player like Ronaldo. We have to protect the better players. As it have been happening with Messi, Villa, Robben.

Ronaldo have been played in a collective way, and he is doing fine.

Portugal is ready. 3 goals against in 23 games.

Ronaldo playing in a collective way? There is no bigger egoist then Ronaldo in the national Portugal team, and also in Spain for Real, but because there are more big players over there it's not so visiable.

Shooting a free kick from more then 40 meters? Nobody in the national team that will say to him what to do? Another good example is if I'm right the 5-0 against North Korea, if the player next to him passed to ball to him then he was the guy from the 5-0. Now the player next to him shoot the ball against the goal keeper, the whole national team was celebrating the 5-0 and you can see on the tapes that Ronaldo keep his head down, and you can almost saw him thinking, damm why not me!

Ronaldo was annoying player and egoist in his period in Portugal, the same in England and also in Spain, if i'm talking about him in the field, don't know him in the real world. :D I think he will always stay that, but it's one of the best players in the world!

Otherwise possible he would see comments like this maybe almost every day, but in the end he will laugh the most because in the end he have millions on his banc account and that amount of millions I would possible never going to get in my whole life! :mrlooney:

Ronaldo does play in a collective way, more than it happens in Spain, for Real. You can see he scores a lot for Real and so few for Portugal.

He has coach instructions to play collectively, and those direct kicks from more than 40 mts are just simple trys from a player who has a strong kick, and this is authorized by his coach.

You cant see only one or two situations like that in a game, and just say he is egoist.

In the second and third game, he was playing a lot in a collective way. See this: if he were egoist he could have scored maybe 2/3 goals more, aginst North Korea. In 7 goals he scored just 1 goal, and made 2/3 almost goal passes: wow, what an egoist player!!! :D

But, anyhow, it is a matter of opinions...

Yes, still a big egoist player that only think about himself and always want to be at the frontpage. He don't score more goals because he was not in the right position. Like I said just watch the goal back that everybody is celebrating the goal and he is only thinking damm, why not me? A free kick taking from 40 meters, that's only happen one at the 100 times that a ball is going in like that, he also could pass the ball into the front of the keeper and try to let score other people. Rules from the coach? He doesn't matter, because he is the man with hope for Portugal like Messi for Argentina. Not another player try to discuss with him in the field.... And there are many more situations why loads of people don't like him. Not only I think it's a big egoist many more people over here, also in Spain, also in Portugal and also in the UK.

But afterall in the end every club or country wants a player like Ronaldo in his team, because finally his football quality is going further and he lives for the sport, for example look at his body and speed when he tried to run... training, training and traing, even do training when the rest is free! That's the spirit! :) Specially could only dream that every player wants to train more to make his own better then he already is.

Like you said many options more, don't want to discuss further about Ronaldo, everybody has his own thoughts :)

Cristiano Ronaldo is a surprisingly collective palyer at the national team, as everybody says here in Portugal, many people, the press (http://www.cmjornal.xl.pt/detalhe/noticias/sport/mundial-2010/do-nada-ao-tudo, for instance), the analysis men, inclusive spanish (trying to understand why he is not as protagonist as in Real).

I think you are missing something analysing like that.

As an excelent player it is normal he trys to decide. He has been doing that, but not so much as for Real!

By the way, i dont think Messi is an egoist player... Nor Robben...

Robben from Holland is an egoist player either sometimes, specially in the period that he was playing for FC Groningen here in Holland. Every chance he tried to shoot on the goal, even when other people has a better position to score.

Do you support a team in Portugal?

At the Copacabana Arena (second link), am i wrong or did i see more Portuguese fans? :D

Rafael,

I think they had some sort of red hand from what I could make out, but still wearing Brazil colors. Rio has a lot of Portuguese, but far from enough to outnumber the Brazilians. There are some very good Portuguese restaurants in Rio by the way.

The big league boys playing today and what play ...Germany plays and beats England 4-1

Full of Sturm & Drang Germany rips apart the English defense with modern efficient tic-tac football

England receives a blow after a goal is waved away because the linesman was sleeping :rage:

The Germans have far more class with players like Schweinsteiger, Muller,Klose and Ozil, the English are invisible

Finally a match where the fans could be heard and not those bloody vuvuzelas

Ok then, it is better that way.

Speaking about restaurants, did you try "cozido à portuguesa" :D ?

Rafael,

Yes I have, but it has been a long time. In fact it has been a long time sine I have had a good bacalhau dinner as well. There are a couple of good Portuguese restaurants here in Manaus. It sure will be interesting have the next world cup in Brazil. The party will be a big one. The one thing that Brazil knows how to do better than anyone in my opinion is throw parties.

Since Brazil and Portugal have a special relationship, after all Rio was the capital of Portugal at one time. it was interesting to watch the news here before the game. To many the tie satifactory result in spite of Brazil not playing up to expectations.

Almost :mrlooney:

Well when it was 1-0 you had 2 really good chances, that we have to say thanks to the goal keeper. Hard to say but that where the only 2 moments that I was scared that it could go wrong.

Btw, the 2-1 was not right, defitnely not a penalty! It cost me points because In my online World cup bed, I said 2-0 before :P

Now going to watch if we going to play to our Brazilian friends coming friday :)

A better team won. Congratulations to our Dutch friends. But we have nothing to be ashamed of because our players did their best. What a pity that Stoch or Vittek didn't equalize from one of their chances. BTW, Stoch won the Eredivisie with Twente this year and scored 10 goals if I remember correctly.

What I didn't like about the game was the Skrtel's foul right before the second goal scored by Holland because it was NOT a foul. Also I admit the referee made a mistake when he called the penalty against Holland because that wasn't a foul either. But that's a different story because the refs are the weakest part of this championship anyway.

Now you're going to play Brazil, my second fav after Slovakia :mrlooney:

Wal, it will be brasiliensis vs. campestris (I mean the Argentinian population, not Uruguayan). Brazil will win against Uruguay in the semis. In the other semi Argentina will win against Paraguay. It's going to be all-South_American thing this year :mrlooney:

continental climate somewhat moderated by the influence of the mediterranean sea, atlantic ocean and north sea water masses but still prone to arctic blasts from the east as well as hot and dry summers. pushing the limits is exciting.

I'm predicting a Germany versus Brazil final, who else would like to stick their neck out and predict the two finalists ?

I'm very worried with Uruguay...and Holland likes to surprise too...if Dunga manages to control that Sjneidel guy (he's the only brain of the orange team) then things will be easy for us on friday. Also, if Lúcio, Juan and Maicon keep their performances, no Messis, Robbens or Suarez will have any chance against our defense...anyway, the fav for the title is Argentina...they're gonna smash Germany for sure.

Well if....Holland wins against Brasil it will be a replay of the 1978 World Cup final Holland against Argentina, this time Holland will win.

But if... Brasil wins the game against Holland and it could well be as Brasil has shown the best play until now; the final will be Brasil -Argentina

Germany is the most dangerous outsider though, they play fast and furious

Jan, there was no battle of the Jans simply because most Dutch kids today are given foreign names such as Wesley,Rafael,Robin,Giovanni,Eljero,Nigel,Demy,Edson and Ryan

If Argentina smash Germany, I'll plant a south american palm the next day. :D

If they don't, I'll plant two

Final. Hollandico - Spain

Well that's what I predicted over here, because you always want to have your own country in the final. If Holland wil not reach to the finals I guess something like Brazil against Spain.

Everybody here says Argentina going to smash Germany, why have I 0-1 predicted for the Germans?

Offside on the spanish goal against Portugal! Shame on the referee.

Lucky Spain, before that could have suffer goals against...

Didnt deserve to go through...

Soon we will have our revenge

That's how the game goes, "deserving" has nothing to do with it. I was talking to the FIFA president the other day and he's not overly interested in going high tech to assist umpires. No electronic devices, no third umpire in front of a monitor with slow motion replays.

Spain won't beat Germany or Argentina for that matter. You heard it first, "The Good Oil" with Wal.

Send Blatter regards from Portugal, and a ticket to Honolulu...with no return...and also to the south american referees (four in the four games)...

As soon as I saw the England non-goal, I knew that instant-replay would be used in the future! Can't miss a call by that much.

On the other hand, what about other kinds of egregious calls, like the Mexico offsides or the U.S. non-penalty vs Slovenia? If they were smart, they'd have more refs and also talk on those headphones to people in the replay booths.

Yes, I agree. However there are enough "Bavaria babes" over here during the games and with this hot weather, i like there dressing code even more... :mrlooney:

That's also a reason why I like summer more then winter :D
