Hi guys, I just wanted to know what you all did for Earth day. Don't say it is a stupid liberal holiday because I am a Conservative. We watched Wall-E in class, and had a tornado drill.

If you did plant palms, what type??

Potted up some cycads and planted a new variety weeping red bud tree that has dense foliage of big tropical looking leaves  . Also planted a Beccariophoenix 'alfredii' from a one gallon out in front. None of this was for Earth Day, though. It's just because I love planting anything tropical looking or unusual. :)

Coolio everyone! And about where I'm moving (somewhat random, but this topic is suited for this) I'm moving to Yuma, AZ. It is zone 9b, and dry, but I might have sold my majesties off because they might have gotten too big in the next few years.

Nothing. Didn't even know about it. Toward the end of the day I heard that it was the 40th anniversary. Not that I am a shining example but, it seems to me, that if one is somewhat responsible in an environmental way then you celebrate Earth Day every day.

Good topic to bring up today.... glad to see it came from one of, if not our youngest member! As palm/plant lovers, I am sure most of us give back to mother nature numerous times throughout the year but it's also good to recognize and participate on this special day. Personally I continued to transplant palms out of my existing yard, in preparation to plant them in my new yard, which will occur after we close next week. :) Jv

I repotted one orchid that finished flowering.

Then I drove my 20 year old truck to go bowling. It exchanges Carbon Dioxide with my palms who in return give me Oxygen.

So much for "earth day"! :mrlooney:

Yesterday I had to work and felt really awful. BUT I still managed to buy 2 decent sized Archo cunninghamiana to plant this weekend, plus a pot of Chamaedorea cataractum seedlings that I managed to separate into 10 pots. And I potted up one of my Euphorbias.

I created earth on Earth day. Meaning I added veggies and organic kitchen scraps to my compost and stirred it in. But I do that every morning anyway as a ritual. I wanted to plant a palm in the garden but I work 10-12 hour days of labor and as JV says, I am doing things for mother earth every week anyways.

I like how 4-20 and Earthday are in the same week :)

Since corn ethanol is now being burned in many cars in the nation to promote global cooling, I burned some corn ethanol in me by drinking some Pacifico cerveza,...much more satisfying and it kept me at home.

I didnt know it was earth day. However, after reading a few days back from my diary I saw that I pulled out a lot of weeds and finally got around to planting one of the Licuala elegans that have been sitting in a pot for 12 months. I am sure Mother Gaia will appreciate it. Darold I just gave away both my D. baronii after I saw a photo of what they look like when they are older. I didnt know they are clumping. I spent the day in São Paulo looking for a way to make some money. And, hopefully I was successful. I did notice a very nice sight in downtown São Paulo that I never had paid attention to. Right next to the municpal opera house there is a plaza with some very beautiful tall old royal palms in the midst of the buildings. Next time I go I intend on taking my camera. São Paulo is the New York of Latin America. And, then on the way home I left on a flight at 830 pm and arrived home at 1145 PM Manaus time, one hour earlier than São Paulo. About 30 minutes out of Manaus over the forest on a moonlight night the sight was marvelous. The moon reflecting in the rivers and the dark forest with no lights went on forever. And, then across the Amazon River and into the airport. Manaus at night is a beautiful sight as it´s lights shine out of the wilderness. It was great to be home in the heart of Amazonia again. And, when I stepped out of the airport at around midnight the humid warmth of the Amazonian night was overwhelming.
