    Your palms are Livistona chinensis the other chinese palm, the petioles have spines, not as hardy to cold as Trachycarpus fortunei and they like to grow in the shadow under the trees.

    Zack,

    Livistona chinensis seeds exhibit remote germination. It's hard for me to see in your video, but the root you see is probably just the normal root growing from the seed before heading downward. Check out this link for more information. Adjacent and Remote Germination
