While i was walking by a local nursery, where usually people cant find but common palms (canary, robusta, capitata), i found four little filifera babys...

By the way are you sure its a filifera,Since my w.filiferas had heavy white hairs on its leaves which are very curly for that size...?

Well it has been sold as a filifera, inserted in a separate group of filiferas and near other robusta groups. And i did identify differences between them. So, i decided to bring it with me.

Anyway it is nice, and i will update its data!

i agree with kris. The filifera seedlings i see are practically covered in those white hairs! Maybe you got a "filibusta" (filifera x robusta)

Beautiful pictures and where are you located in hot wet tropical zone ? Since your palms trunk is not massive enough.i.e those in cal & mexico are frighteningly massive.

Your palm is growing fast,and the white hairs that i mentioned is see in the ribs of the leaves.As thought the entire top surface of the leaf growing hairs.This will be clear only after planting them on the ground,when it puts out mature leaves(full size leaves).And this also will disappear as the palm grows taller.

And if you have a dry climate i insist that you grow pure W.Filiferas than the tall growing W.Robustas.

And here is a still taken on Nov'09 of a washy in our garden,which is placed in blue metal chips and no regular soil in that bore well ring.And its growing great !

Kris: I am not in a dry climate, just near the sea, plenty of humidity (and besides that, there is the grass irrigation ), but everything is doing fine, even the dry climate palms (brahea armata, jubaea chilensis, sabal palmeto)

I'm not familiar with Washingtonias, I have Livistona rotundifolia by the dozen, and something that looks similar but with dark thorns or is it the other way round. I was not fond of palms with thorns for a long time, but have come to accept some now. Hope you are pleased with your new acquisition.

Thanks William, in fact i already have four filifera palms, this "baby", two other juvenille (one in the ground), and another with 2,5 mts tall (this one you can see on my signature link).

Washingtonianas are rather common here. Robusta mainly.

By the way i also have a small 8 leaves rotundifolia, but this one cant be outside, because of freeze episodes.

Rafael, Both are filifera, grown from seed collected by me in the canyons in S Calif in 2001. I have 2 more but one of them has a really thin trunk.
