Snow in all 48 Contiguous US States today?

Today (Feb 12, 2010) there are winter storm warnings for parts of Northwest Florida. If it snows here today, there will be snow on the ground at least somewhere in all 48 contiguous states. Obviously Alaska has snow. No word on the mountains of Hawaii, but if there is snow accumulation in Florida today, this will be the first time in recorded history that all US States (excluding Hawaii) have at least some snowcover. I'm pulling for some Snow in FL just so this absurd winter makes it into the record books in as many catagories as possible. That probably sounds weired, but if we've had to endure it, we ought to earn some kind of award! I'm reasonably satisfied how the palms and other garden plants have endured so far. Yet I'm still anxious for spring. What a winter!

Summers are great, 90f/32c in the day & 70f/21c at night with plentiful rain & sun

Winters are subtropical with occasional frosts and freezes. Tropical cyclones happen.

We have a few Royal palms in the warm microclimates but Coconuts freeze.

I may need to ask for donations for propane in the greenhouse, the low isn't supposed to get over 34 for the next week. Between the rain and cold everything is either froze or is getting root rot. At least I have plenty of seeds to play with. Sorry just venting alittle.

I believe if it snows in Florida there would be snow in all 50 states, including Hawaii. In fact if you are a daring type, you can head to Hawaii and ski on top of Mauna Kea. You can go skiing in the AM and get back in time for a PRA at Bo's place. http://www.starbulletin.com/editorials/20100110_Record_Number_Ski_On_Mauna_Kea_Snow.html

If it makes anyone feel any better. We are having record warmth here in the Seattle area.

Doesn't appear to be snow on Mauna Kea at this time and the forecast continues to be mostly dry. Infact this El Nino year has most of Hawaii on the drier than normal side right now. Guess some of the rainfall we should be getting has been heading east to California and then continuing on across the US to the mid-eastern seaboard where record snowfall has been recorded!

Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean.

No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!).

Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil.

Nice sunsets!

It was recently reported this evening that all 49 states did have some form of snow falling with the exception of Hawaii. Pretty remarkable.

Later press reports did say all 50, so I guess they found some falling on some Hawaiian mountain top.

Here's what my yard near Savannah looks like tonight! I call the first pic "Adding Insult to Injury" (what a winter). The second pic "Mike Rowe Snowman." The third pic is the "Hardy Corner" (these palms aren't crying). Come on Spring!!!

Maybe a patch or two on the tallest mountains...

Pretty incredible...
