A violent volcanic eruption occurred at Soufriere Hills volcano on Montserrat island today at 13:00 hrs

We are at present in Guadeloupe under a rain of ashes. It is very impressive !!

It has been a while since I experienced ashes from volcanic eruption... I think I was in primary school when the last one happened... How close it the volcano to your place?

I remember dust falling from Mt. St. Helens. Drove through the heavily-ashed areas a couple of months later.

Best wishes to the folks on Montserrat.

It is free fertilizer from the sky :)

...One of the many benefits of living in a volcanic island.

Hi Oliver,

Great pictures, the ash is over here in Antigua also but I was indoors all day and it was not that heavy on the side of the island where I was. Here we are about 45 kilometers from Montserrat but the wind direction makes all the difference in the ash clouds.

Our house is on the south side of Antigua facing directly at Montserrat. Last night was completely clear with all the stars on show. Today we can barely see past the beach, although the top of the ash plume is visible above the 'smog'. There was no breeze at all last night and this morning and everything is covered in ash. Should be some good sunsets.

Great to see you posting Andy, I know you have a birds eye view. Post us some pictures

Oliver:

Hmm. Good free fertilizer, but a volcanic eruption can be the most dangerous thing for people ever.

Promise you'll leave the island if advised to do so?

Be careful, and let us know what happens . . . .
