From one side of the island to the other, Happy Birthday Bo! I was going to wish you a new palm for your Birthday but then that might not be such a good wish as you must have them all by now (at least all those that will grow in your harsh climate)!

Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean.

No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!).

Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil.

Nice sunsets!

I already wished Bo my best wishes yesterday.

But this would probably be a good time for me to let you all know, that IMO the IPS (and PalmTalk) is extremely lucky to have Bo as it's President. As most of you know, almost all IPS Board Members do not visit PalmTalk, nor do they contribute. They do not really know what goes on here. They do not really know how much this Forum does for palm people, how much fun we have, and how much knowledge we share. Bo does. And you will have to take my word for it, without his support, hard work, and participation, PalmTalk would look and feel a lot different than it does.

Thanks Bo, and wishing you many more.

Thanks to those of you who help make this a fun and friendly forum.

Thanks everybody, and thanks a lot, Dean! I've always firmly believed in doing what I enjoy and PalmTalk is definitely a very important component in the "big picture"! And, yes Jeff, that's what call my "daily routine" even though "routine" has a somewhat negative connotation. But I use it in a positive sense. :)

Funny thing with birthdays when you move far away is that all of a sudden your birthday may not be on the "right" day. Apparently, I'm 66 now (I know, it's a mystery how this happened  ), and today, January 28th is my birthday. But, I actually turned 66 yesterday evening, on the 27th! The reason for the "discrepancy" is that I was born in Sweden at 5:30 a.m. on Jan. 28th. That's the same as 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 27th in Hawaii! If I were into celebrations big time I guess I could celebrate on both days. But, this is a pretty low key event. I could make an exception if a bunch of PalmTalk members were to show up here, though! :)

Again, thank you everybody for your Birthday wishes and kind words! :) And yes, yesterday was indeed an outstanding day. Even though I didn't get to plant any palms! We've had extremely dry weather for the last (almost) six weeks, so not a good time to be planting palms. I'm waiting for the rains to return! Which hopefully will be soon. :)
