New Red frond thread

Recommended Posts

Just another red frond popping up on my hookeri. All my Chambeyronia survived our recent freeze event with no damage. Unprotected other than under oak canopy.

I like it when they pop out a new frond! Everything else is brown, but the Red Feather's don't miss a beat.

Thanks for posting! The red is much easier on the eyes than brown I'm used to. :)

What a beautiful palm! I have three seedlings that are still small but I´d like to put into the ground one of these days. How much sun does yours get?

Exquisite shade of red! I also like the Bismarckia as the background for photo #2, excellent.

What a beauty! Thanks for that... I just surveyed the damage in the shadehouse since the cold event. Your Chambey cheered me right up!

Those Chambeys' red "flag" sends chills down my arms; they are that gorgeous! Makes it easier to say, after all that cold "crap" that all will soon be OK! The new red spear confirms that!

Thanks for sharing that bit of colorful life; it made my day!

Sun exposure? As you can see in the photos it is under oak canopy. So, it gets shifty partial shade.

I have 9 of them in the ground and none showed any cold damage. The bird bath that is near this palm was frozen over one morning when I hit 30.2F degrees. I'm sure another degree or two and they would have been damaged.

I love it when this one shoots out a new frond as it is right outside my back porch and I get to gaggle at it every day.

A little more action, less rumination. Since this palm is in full sun, I think it may never have as dark a red as CFD posted.

HEY COOL! I JUST NOTICED YOU CAN DOWNLOAD "MINI-MOVIES" HERE!! I accidentally started a movie instead of pic, so I downloaded it and now I guess the IPS has a movie in their database. No "other host".(the "experiment" link)

This coloring occurred on one of my Chambies at the initiation of the cold wave:

Not even close to that level of red. That is really red!

What you look for is what is looking

Posted

as we all know the red is variable in these. Out of my nine the one in the photo is the reddest. I selected it out of about 20 I bought as seedlings. I have one that only puts out green fronds and the others are red but not as bright as this hookeri. Red Fronds Rock! the one photographed is now fading to green. :(

CFD, Your palm is the darkest I've seen. Congratulations! I can't grow Chambeyronia but I do have a few palms with new growth color. I have a Howea forsteriana with a dark, copper-colored new leaf (but no photo.) Here are two more.

Okay, I know this is, technically, a red thread but would you accept bronze or copper? Maybe I'm over excited because this is the first leaf of my Pinanaga coronata that has given me its real color and I thought I'd share it. I am still waiting for my Chambeyronia's to startle you and I cannot post my Welfia regias because it may produce cardio cessation. Peter

Here's my contribution to the red frond thread, not as exciting as most of the other red leafers, but it's a neat looking palm anyways.
