Hi,

Recently bought me a palm with no ID tag on it. Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Sergei

I think this could be a carludovicia palmata... Not a palm then !

Nice plant though...

yes carludovicia palmata

Definitely not a palm but in the related family Cyclanthaceae. I think it is the plant that is marketed as Jungle Drum. Its in tissue culture and become a popular houseplant for sale. I think this plant is Asplundia rigida. Carludovica gets divided palmate leaves, the Aspundia leaves reamin undivided and bifid at the end. Here it is at Fairchild;

I have grown over a hundred carludovica palmata from seed and that sure looks like it to me - they dont split their leaves until they are much larger or in the ground - i have some that are 3 years old that look like that and some 5 year old that are bigger but all in pots are still single leaf tip- A 5 year old I put in the ground last season split its first two leaves before the artic tundra blew down and fried it - direct sun will burn them fast so be careful!
