Sure. A Feb 28th rain day would be nice at this point.

I still hope for more rain, although ideally we would get some breaks in between storms to allow the water to soak in. It would be nice to top off all our reservoirs in the State and put an end to the drought talk. Happ, thank you for your updates and inside view of some of the weather forecasts. It really is nice to have the 'heads up' when severe weather might hit! Perry

I have some sad news. This morning Mt. Diablo outside of Walnut Creek was covered with snow. It is only about 15 miles from me. It rained most of the night and morning, and I think it was still snowing up there this morning. My low this morning was 42 F. At 5 PM this evening it's 47 F and the clouds that have kept some cover and warmer temps. are moving out. I think the next 3 nights with little cloud cover will see temps. near freezing, or at the very least some frost. I don't know if these temps will reach S. Calif, but heads up. This last front that went through is much cooler than the previous ones.

We had a little hail this afternoon and the temp. went down to 42F. Then I checked around 6PM and it was back up to 49F. I don't see any freezing low temperatures predicted here for the next few days so am hoping the forecast is correct- Chilly but not Cold!

It was 43F here in SD by my house an hour ago after a brief hail storm. It has shot up to 48F. Low is expected to be about 42F.

I was wrong about the temps. The clouds moved back in and kept it warmer. I thought it was all over but rain moving in over the SF Bay Area this morning. I've had over 8" so far. Temp is 45 this morning.

Your storm won't make it into SoCal for another day or two but more rain looks likely again :mrlooney: Stayed clear but windy at times overnight so minimum stayed in mid 40's here. On Tuesday the NWS releases it's weekly update on drought conditions. There will be a huge improvement for California & Arizona.

More rain is a good thing.

Fill up those water storage thingies . . . . . .

And the artesian basins.

The more rain No-Cal gets, the better we in So-Cal are, too. Your rain is so much more reliable . . . .

Unfortunately our N. Cal. rain hasn't been all that reliable the past few years. A front is moving in on the SF bay area today, but it's moving very slowly. I am getting off and on what I call a Seattle drizzle, but heavier rain is forcast for later in the day. Most of it is going just north of the Golden Gate, and Marin Co. is probably getting drenched. They can get 3" sometimes and it will be sunny here, usually the earlier fronts. More rain forcast for later in the week, so let 'er rip. My rain buckets are full. I wish I had a way to store more rain water. I could actually use a couple of days of sun and some drying out. Much to soggy to pull weeds or work outside, and it's only 49F right now at 9:30 AM

Dick.

Not that any of this affects me much. But, I do like to watch what is happening with the weather in the USA. Here is accuweaather for February in the news this morning. Accuweather for Feb.

It looks like there may be more threads on cold weather events upcoming.

Joe Bastardi made his February prediction over a week ago. Long-range forecasts are, of-course, somewhat unreliable but Bastardi has a fairly good track record. The comment about some of the cold extending into the Great Basin puts it closer to California than what occurred earlier this month. Hopefully the arctic air will not reach as far south as well.

A fairly potent storm is moving into California starting in NorCal today & SoCal tomorrow evening into Saturday. Pretty decent rainfall rates are forecast. This system is a bit north of the usual El Nino track so expect cool temps w/ the chilly post-frontal airmass by Sunday morning [possibility of frost in places].

Hey Epicure,

We become conditioned to expect less than more rainfall in SoCal but this system has the potential for some pretty heavy showers in LA county. NWS_LA posted this earlier this morning:

THE WRF SHOWS A JET STREAK AND ASSOCD VORT MAX INTERACTING WITH THE FRONTAL BAND AS IT PUSHES ACROSS L.A. COUNTY...AND CONSEQUENTLY REALLY INCREASES RAINFALL RATES AND PRECIP TOTALS FRIDAY EVENING. THIS WILL HAVE TO BE WATCHED CLOSELY AS IT COULD MEAN TROUBLE FOR THE BURN AREAS...BUT AT THIS TIME...WHETHER THIS OCCURS RIGHT OVER L.A. COUNTY AS IS CURRENTLY INDICATED IS STILL IN QUESTION. IF LATER MODELS CONT TO SHOW THIS...FLASH FLOOD WATCHES FOR THE BURN AREAS WILL HAVE TO BE CONSIDERED.

Less than 3 days apart?

I can only imagine how well the computers would do predicting the weather if they factored taro cards into their calculations?

They have increased the spread in SD to .75"-1.75" which is a pretty large spread.
