FL Python Hunting Season

Featured Replies

Wow. Just seen a report on the news about this...

The season ended for non-permit holders on Halloween.

But some are still allowed to kill throughout the year....

Ray - it would be interesting to know how many "bigins" they got. :interesting:

It should be open season on them all year - along with iguanas.

Why don't they sell the meat? Restaurants are always looking for new meat items. We have ostrich, bison, etc. Why not snake steak pan fried with a little butter and garlic?

Hey, I'd at least try it. But then again, a Cajun will try just about anything once.

But even more than food, the skins of Pythons and Iguana are both quite valuable and should be harvestable for that alone. They make some mighty fine boots.

And if humans won't eat the meat, work it into Cat and Dog food like everything else.

Keith,

I'm with you - a North Florida Cracker will eat almost anything once. And I've had rattlesnake and iguana and would eat both again.

I like the idea of python boots or a purse or belt. Sounds like a great idea.
