i have been reading about the portuguese explorer Magellan.he was hacked to bits in 1521 or thereabouts on the island of mactan in the phillipines, but accompanying him on his journey to circumnavigate the globe was someone whose name may sound familiar: Antonio Pigafetta. Pigafetta took a poison arrow to the forehead in the same battle but managed to survive. he stayed on board ship the next day when 30 of Magellans crew went to feast with some fillipino "allies" & were all slaughtered.

think about that the next time yer invited to a party.

still "warning-free."

That would be quite the chat-up line, Paul! Remember to offer your young filly the cherry off the stick, before you demonstrate how Pigafetta was struck between the eyes!

So when Ken said he's defrosting a pork shoulder, he really meant that he's sharpening his machette to cut off Paul's shoulder? By the way Paul, where's the pics? Isn't it illegal to start a thread without pics? Dick Douglas is excluded, because he's grandfathered in.

Apparently it is, according to my wife and 75 other Halloween party guests. I thought it was a great solo.

its better if any appendage you use has a reach of MORE than 1 fret on the guitar.

one of those little ones at the top of the neck.

by the pickups.

little,little tiny frets.

so anyways,it struck me as ironic that Magellan met a similiar fate as Cook, who perished at the hands of some pissed-off hawaiians.

As in Poke Weed? I saw that in Alabama. They eat the stuff. None of that here but we do eat live animals at the Japanese joint. Yum :innocent:

According to my history books, Pigafetta was an Italian young wealthy adventurer from Vicenza who happened to be in Sevilla with the Pope's embassador when Magellan (Magalhães as we say in portuguese) was assembling the expedition comissioned by the crown of Spain and then he offered to pay for joining the trip, latter accepted. He's had some studies in astronomy, cartography and general sciences and kept notes of the journey, later published in Italy and France (now available in Italian in the web) which included several new animal and plants descriptions.

What a journey it might have been...They first stopped in the Canaries and might have crossed Sirinhaém horizon late november 1519 and then stayed for Christmas in Rio before taking the long route south. When they reached the southern part of Argentina, Magellan decided to hybernate the expedition for 5 months, in hope the strait's oceanic flow from Antartica would slow down and they could face a better climatic condition in order to explore and try to cross, by intuition. Their next stop was for a brief period in Guam, late in the following year. Pigafetta described the fatal encounter the expedition had later in Cebu...lucky guy managed to escape Magalhães destiny by chance (he sure deserves the spiny palm to be named after him :) ). He arrived back in Spain among the only 18 surviving sailors (out of original crew of 256) in 1522 with Elcano.
