Grower here has lots of these coming on for sale and has coined a common name .

Big Box stores like our Bunnings want a fancy label .

A few visiting Asians were attracted to his larger plant in the garden .

SO will this new name be accepted by general population ?

Who makes up names like Majestic and Teddybear ?

Am I making any sense through this fog of tequila from last nites birthday drinks ?

I have just planted a few on the bank in front of my house , maybe I will get lucky .

Pictured a nice one growing at Phils Palms & Pots in Mareeba .

Bunnings selling Carpoxylon. Wow. I wouldn't care what they call it if they stock it. It's still a Carpoxy to me. I'm impressed how well they grow down here in Perth. I can't wait for mine to look like your pic.

Best regards

For the last 4-5 years, I have been marketing the name, Elegant palm, for a common name. I just think it's so elegant looking. I have it on our palm cards when we do our local palm sales here.

I'd be lucky if I could grow it outdoors here.....

Oakley, California

Solid zone 9, I can expect at least one night in the mid to low twenties every year.

Hot, dry summers. Cold, wet winters.

I don't think Lucky palm is very respectful to a Carpoxylon. Reminds me of that gimicky lucky bamboo they sell here. If it has to have a common name, elegant is okay Jeff but I'd go for something bigger like "Magnificent palm - Vanuatu Giant".

What's wrong with calling it what it is? I think a lot of "pet" names cause a lot of confusion.

How do you pronounce Aneityum? Most people would find this hard to pronounce.

If the use of the name Lucky palms helps sell them in Asia and allows more growers to survive the tough times many are having , it works for me

If all the carpoxylon palms looked as sick as mine they would be known as poxy palms

Peachy

I came. I saw. I purchased

Using common names can get confusing at times but for me as long as I know what it is I don't worry about what others call it. I see it all the time here in Florida from trees to animals fish etc so I don't think the peoples thinking can be changed. I would show pics but mine are 3 gallon size and not much to look at.
