This is still expanding and soft,  but you can see how super wide and narrow these leaflets are.  Almost like eyelashes.  Actually reminds me of microcycas somewhat.

Believe it or not, this is my E. inopinus from a little earlier in this thread.

Wow, such a different form than I am growing.   I don't recall if you have said whether your plant has coned yet and if it is male or female?

Next time mine cones, I will want to see the male pollen donor (assuming someone has pollen).  I was just happy to get pollen on its first cone that I didn't ask to see photos of the plant.   Nothing sprouted from those seeds so it ultimately didn't matter which form it was.

Inopinus is notoriously hard to pollinate, and then the seedlings are quite prone to rot.  I had several over the years and killed them with normal good culture for any other enceph.  At least in containers, I've had complete success since treating this species like a cactus in crazy open soil and letting the plant go another 3 days beyond the point I normally would water any other enceph.

I bought this Horridus a couple years ago as a 1 gal. Because it was so powdery blue! It is also the smallest leaf form I have but is fast growing flushing twice a year. Right now the main caudex and pup are both flushing. They start out lavender colored and gradually turn blue.

You have pollen for it? I have some male blue long that looks almost like a hirsutus if you need some!

Today we raced the rain…. In efforts to salvage as much pollen as possible due to our SoCal irregular rain of October… manage near a full 1 cup of fresh middlebergensis off these 5 male cones!

That sounds like an appealing offer.  I do have other pollen options including my largest Encephalartos longifolius and a couple of blues that would result in hybrids.

Cycas maconochiei flushing. These look really nice at the end of the rainy season. Around April and May they get attacked by scale and white flies. Of all my cycads the scale and white flies infect the cycas more then any other and especially Cycas maconochiei.

Still getting lots of late season flushes! This true blue Arenarius is throwing a 2 leafer second flush this year. I like the way the new leaves come out stacked and spikey like a blue Latifrons!

Of all the hybrids I have I am most excited about the potencial of this one! True blue Arenarius x Dwarf Horridus. Given the parentage it should be super blue with very wide leaflets! They are still small so time will tell.

Little late year heat wave, some fresh rain and then continued warmer temps gets them all fired up for a late season flush!
