Jack and Lindsey arrived early this morning, got some windy sea water exercise yacht racing, about to have a barbecue, just arrived from the Livistonia australis forest

pictures attached of the palm, pictures from Jack camera's.

Sailing in Sydney harbour and hunting for Livistona has been great! And with Col's motivation I'm actually getting some pictures posted - Jack

PS Jack Aussie mobile (cell for those non Aussie's) number is 0417794916 so give him a ring or text, international use 61417794916

Hi Wal

It is on the Waterfall road through the Royal national park south of Sydney, the pictures do not do it justice, it was better than I remembered. Lots of younger ones that came up after the bad bush fires about 8-10 years ago.

Dear Jack & Lindsey:

It's wonderful to be in OZ when the tourist "crush" isn't "on" so restaurants aren't plagued by bad service, and the attractions are really comfortable to see. Almost any place in autumn in Australia is dandy weatherwise except when a tropical cyclone is heading that way, but hopefully that won't occur during your stay here!

Mostly just enjoy your wonderful AU palm-loving hosts; we're all cousins, it would seem! (We just talk a little strange in North America!)

Cheers!

After they had a good night sleep upstairs we all went to Minnamurra rain forest, the southern most sub tropical rainforest in Australia, in the Illawarra region of NSW. Jack could not wait to get there as it has many, many Livistonia australis and a lot less Archontophoenix cunninghamiana. These are growing in original untouched rainforest. Jack must a have taken 200 pictures, he sure was having fun. Pictures of the girls and Jack in front of a small figtree. Afterwards we went back to Sydney via Ian Edwards garden. In the forecourt of the Sydney opera house are Livistonia australis and they are also at Darling harbour, the only picture was a was Lindsey and Jack on the Opera house steps and a dark picture of the palms at Darling harbour. We were too late to get the good pictures of the palms.

Jack will have some fantastic pictures to post when time permits.

This morning we went for a very quick visit to the Royal Sydney botanical gardens to show Jack 3 Cyphokentia cerifera (Moratia cerifera), Jack took some great pictures, then on to the airport , they are now in Lord Howe island and tomorrow they climb to the summit of Mt Gower. They arrive back in Sydney for Friday night, we have not worked out a plan yet for the night, must be some more palms for them to see in the dark, maybe another bottle of wine when they get off the plane again might help with the thinking :):)

Jack told me it was very cold there .. just lucky to get typical inclement weather here for them .. chilly in Syd. and Lord Howe , and guess what ? After 3 weeks of barely a drop of rain , it was raining here for them . Quick tour of my humble garden and then I took them to Terry Meads place for some unusual stuff .. Jack had his camera working overtime .

Thanks for all the great comments everyone! Mt Gower was crazy. Almost vertical in quite a few sections with lots of ropes. Probably the best rainforest I've ever seen, it's almost all palms. We finally have internet (and also a bed after a couple nights of camping in the heavy rain :rage: . Our tent's on the porch drying out). Mike was a fantastic host in Tully, he's got a HUGE spread there to work with, and some HUGE plants after only a couple years. He kept complaining about the soil (I guess that's what you do when the climate is perfect?). Also, he said I look like a gunslinger in my avatar - yeah baby!! Last few days in the Licuala forest, Mt Lewis, Daintree, and Myola were amazing, but VERY wet. Lots of leaches... I'll try to post some photos tomorrow if I have time. We've already taken about 1500, so hopefully there's a few good ones.

It sounds like Michael is looking after you well.... You don't have to worry about here. We have been getting nothing but sunny weather  . The dry is here and it is cooler and much more pleasant. Most of the water holes should be opened, unfortunately the tourist are here as well. Do give us a call... I should be around. There is a few false alarm lately, but I don't think she/he will come in a hurry. Are you sure you won't have time to check out the botanical garden or Fred Pass garden? Let me know if you change your mind.

My garden won't be as advanced as Michael.... He is lucky with the rainfall and as much as he complains about the soil... he has much better soil than we do and less harsh environment for palms or anything for that matter to grow in. Looking forward to catching up with you.... and I hope Darwin will deliver as much enjoyment as you have been having. It is a different place, but pretty nonetheless....
