This is a seedling we sprouted from a local tree. A few of the seedlings are doing this, but this one is the most pronounced

I've been raising them from seed for seven years now, and that's a first for me, very cool, I'd try and find a place under some other trees for it though, it looks like it's getting a little too much sun, Ed

I have been raising them since their first arrival back in the early 90's, I probably have germinated over 100,000 seeds by now but I have never seen one that threw a new red leaf. If this is really the case. I want to see this same seedling over the next few months throwing more red leaves. I hope that's what it is. If so, whoaaa!!!

These seedlings are getting a lot of neglect. They live off rain water for the most part and get blasted by our Florida sun. Maybe it's just red because of the harsh conditions??

We'll see if the next few leaves are as red. I'll post future pics if they are...

Do they throw red, then turn green? Was the older green leaf originally red like the newest one? Pretty cool. Could it by a hybrid of some sort?

They probably can't answer that, since this is the first one discovered by man, Ed

Wow, keep us posted.

I've never seen one like that. The only caryotid palm I've seen with a red new leaf is Pinanga coronata, and I wonder if it even qualifies . . . . .
