Can anyone guess what cycad this is from the cone? Apparently it is the only positively IDed male specimen coning in the United States.

Being hugely rare, Encephalartos woodii would be the obvious guess, but the leaflets don't look wide enough, so I'll guess at Lepidozamia hopei, which is a totally uneducated guess, just the first name that popped into my head.

After looking through Loren's book, I'm gonna say it's an Encephalartos Chimanimaniensis.

I have sent the photo to a cycad collector/grower from our palm and cycad society here for ID. No reply yet.

My guess would be either Encephalartos poggei  or Encephalartos schaijesii from central Africa.

I'd like to get better at identifying different species of enchephalartos.

I went by the look of plate 239 in Loren's book, even though the picture in plate 238 of the adult chimani growing in the full sun looks nothing like CF's picture posted above.
