I just ordered two Trachy oreophyllus.

Does someone grow this quite new palm ? what about its exposure requirements ?

Thanks

Hi Jean-Philippe

Mine is only a little one and has just come through its first winter with 14 frosts but only down to -3. 5 C its growing in the shade of a T wagnerianus and seems quite at home.

I should not think you should have too much problem growing it in your zone.

my small seedling (two leaves) has survived this very cold winter without any damage (without any protection). coldest was -8.5°C but two weeks of almost non stop freezing temperatures during the night and only 2/4°C during the day...

quite a strong palm!

I have five year old spec of this one, and haven't had the courage to put it outside yet, but it has survived very nicely in a shed that has an average temperature of +5 without any damage. Of course in the coldest parts of the winter it has dipped down to -10. Usually for only a couple of hours. Again, no damage.

Thank you for your answers ! I think mines won't have any problems because of frost. On the other hand, I dread to expose them in full sun : are yours exposed in sun or semi shade ? do they burn with hot summer afternoon sun ?

Mine haven't and we can get pretty glaring sunlight in the summer and these guys have been inside a relatively low light for most of the winter.. Although my Latisectus' burn like tinder if they aren't climatized so maybe they are a bit hardier in that respect..

I know of two in deep shade in San Francisco Botanical Garden that seem to grow fine. They are young plants.
