Dear Friends :)

This gives me immense pleasure to meet you all through this lovely thread, where i have tried to give step by step illustrations for those who are new to palm growing..And each time,i try to improvise new methods which are most apt for our hot tropical climate having high coastal humidity influence. So the medium is constantly kept as porous as possible for easy drainage of excess of water..

Today iam going to show you how to plant or repot a Phoenix Roebelenii x Dacty. And the germinated seeds came from brother M@x.And my sincere thanks to him for those germinated seeds & for his time. <ahttp://www.palmtalk.org/forum/uploads/emoticons/emoticons_smilie.gif' alt=':)'> And these palms happen to be one of my favouriate palms,Since iam a phoenix fan.. :) Here is a link to the Phoenix roebelenii /Pygmy Date Palm regular form.

And by the way if any one growing this lovely hybrid palm & if you have some stills to share kindly post,so that i can know how this palm would actually look when its big & maturing ? :hmm:

In the following post there are visuals and are mostly self explinatory,so you wan't find much of a problem to understand the standard planting procedure..

Thanks & Love,

Kris :)

Nice work Kris. That phoenix should like all that room for it's roots and the well draining soil... Jv

I actually have a rob X canary cross and it's a nice palm..... it has a roby sized trunk yet canary like fronds just way smaller in size... it has taken low 20s with no damage at all. Jv

Nice JV, you can really see that is not full blooded P. roebellini. It looks like a miniature canary. Has it suckered yet? How is it's speed of growth? Was it a roebellini mother or canary?

Thanks a bunch for the photos.

Hey Matt, don't have any info on the parents of this palm.... my guess - the mother was a roby pollinated by a canary. It hasn't suckered and probably won't. I am hoping it'll stay a single trunk. Jv

Thanks M@x! This palm hasn't bloomed yet so I don't know if it's male or female.... hoping it'll be female as I'd like to cross it with a couple of other phoenix. Speaking of seeds, I should be going on a phoenix seed collection trip later in the month... you will be first on my list for distribution! :) Jv

Hello Giuseppe, which is the origin of yours Roebelenii x Dacty?

I also have one that comes from a friend near Rome.
