Good Palm Nursery Near Santa Cruz, CA

Recommended Posts

I've got a new client in the Santa Cruz area that wants lots of palms in her new landscape and since I'm more accustomed to doing landscapes here in the Bay Area, I'm not very familiar with nurseries south of here.

Can anyone suggest a good source of small, medium, and large palms of different varieties anywhere in that vicinity?

Thanks :)

Monterey Bay Nursery can supply some small plants.

Not sure about large specimens. I think near Gilroy there's a place, but the name escapes me.

Hey Jim,

Met some people from San Luis Obispo palms (slopalms.com) at the PSSC banquet. They had some really nice palms. Don't know if that is too far south for you.

Hi Jim,

Both the Santa Cruz and Monterey communities are woefully void of interesting palms. It was so sad to see Ray and The Palm Patch close shop in your area!

I have a friend in Pacific Grove (Monterey) who is becoming interested in palms, I started him out with a Parajubaea sunkha that is growing well for him. He says he's unable to find palms of any interest in the area.

Gary at Golden Gate in Richmond, Phil Nickel in Shafter and Dale at Neon Palm in Santa Rosa and Vacaville are the last large scale Palm Nurserys that I know of in all of Northern California. Are there any others?

Sorry Im no help!

Don't forget the Flora Gubb Nursery in San Francisco. Not only do they have a nice selection of rare palms that will grow in the SF Bay Area, they carry many other exotic plants. They have some nice Aloes and suculents and lots of other exotic items. I believe they have their own growing grounds in S. Calif. Jason Dewees, a PS member, works there and he can special order palms from down South.
