Friday Feb 20, 2009 - Cloudy sky. It sprinkled a couple times yesterday afternoon but it evaporated as soon as it hit the ground. What a tease!

I was a community just up the Negro River from Manaus on Saturday. I went down by the river to see if there would be a nice sunset. There are great sunsets over the Negro River. But, the clouds were in the way and it was just a nice end of the day. I was actually on a tributary that flows into the Negro at this point, the Tarumã Mirim river.

The trees of the river banks of the Tarumã Mirim had a nice glow at the long light from the end of the day still illumated them.

This is what it looked like looking over the Negro River at sunset on Sunday night from my place in the country. It is not of a sunset as such, but the effect of the setting equatorial sun on a cloud formation.

OK .. I am going a break a rule here.

Sunrise from my office here in Saudi Arabia the other morning.

Looking east... Its very rare that you can see those mountains .... We had some high pressure move in some cooler weather the other day and it has been spectacular here.

I think you will appreciate the Phoenix Palms along the highway......

Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean.

No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!).

Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil.

Nice sunsets!
