In the New Orleans, LA area, Monk Parakeets (aka Quaker Parrots) builds their stick nest, which they occupy year round, on cell phone towers, electrical power poles, electrical power substations, microwave towers and similar man-made structures and in one type of tree, the date palm. Before the Katrina hurricane, the birds use to build nests in fan palms, but it appears they have stopped this practice. Does anyone have any idea why the Monk Parakeet has selected the date palm for its nests? In their native Argentina, Monk Parakeets generally build their nests in Prosopis nigra or Eucalyptus sp. trees.

If I were a monk parrkeet I would choose a more sturdy tree to nest in too. What's more sturdy than a CIDP? :)
