Howdyall:

Well, it finally happened, that moment I've gabbed incoherently about for a while . . . .

My erstwhile giant Cedrus deodar was REMOVED this weekend, by, our fave, Palmazon.

A glimpse into the crown soon-not-to be.

About 10:00 a.m., Sunday, December 7, 2008.

Dave, nice work. same to palmazon.

I brought out the chainsaw this weekend also.

Took down huge limb on my pecan tree. also removed a large overgrown (made my palms look like small seedlings) Brown turkey fig. 4-5 months out of the year it would bare all (leafless), was really killing my lush tropical look.

more rooms for palms (and fish pond)

Dave,

I would have done the same. Were any palms damaged as I've heard horror stories of branches falling down and taking out precious palms. Now the tree is gone how about a pic of the whole yard, it should look great.

Soak the wood chips and use them on the grill. Much mellower than hickory or mesquite, but quite good.

Len - that's a diet Pepsi

Bill - we did what we could to dodge the palms. Dave put it thus: trees fall in jungles all the time, hurricanes mangle fronds - palms somehow manage to survive it all.

We could've lowered each limb with block and tackle, but it would've taken considerably longer. Dave removed the lowermost skirt of the largest limbs prior to my visit; had we left them, they may have served to shield some of the palms.

I hope you're kidding . . . .

Palmazon came down from the tree after he notched it.

Then he helped us pull the rope.

As for your Grevillea, the sooner the better.

It won't get any smaller, unless a wind rips it down, in which case it will cause damage, especially those large branches.

Some of the palms were damaged, unfortunately.

However, I am the founding Dean of Dave's School of Dysfunctional Pruning Technique (a double major in drive-by photography also offered!) and I have damaged palms before, some rather severely, including Chambeyroneas.

As long as the actual growth bud isn't trashed, it'll be okay, though it will look sad for a while.

Kings and relations make a rapid comeback.

Look in the PSSC Journal -- or a palm journal near you for the article when it comes . . . . .
