The perennial losers have defied logic (and 200-1 odds) to make the World Series. Go Rays!

Lots of late nights of watching & more to come. I've been a zombie the last week :asleep: I'm not a big baseball fan but I am elated to see the home team kick butt. Go Rays! :D

Bren, the 8PM starts are killing me too. Baseball games with national focus take 4+ hours.

Good to see TBay make it. I am a STL Cardinal fan was hoping for a 2006 repeat but they blew their chance after the All Star break. Then I was hoping for a Chicago subway series and both of them fizzled out. And glad to see it was the BoSox that got knocked out, anytime Boston or the NYSkankees get eliminated its good.

Bubba, There may still be a little Devil left in them as demonstrated in their domination ALL year!

I am a fan of NL Marlins but any Florida team in the playoffs is my team too.

Watch for Carl Crawford to be a big force in the Series.

The stadium, Tropicana Field, will be replaced soon. Too bad because I really like the place. There is an outfield restaurant behind glass where you can eat all night for one price. The menu includes asparagus with Hollandaise so it can't be all bad!

Go Rays!! It's good to see someone new for a change. I think TB has a very good chance of winning it too.

Go small market RAYS!

Also great to see the Twins go to the wire, watch out for the Athletics in a couple of years. But MOST OF ALL, we love to see George sit at home!

When the 1969 Mets won the world series, it was the first year they had a winning record. This is the first year the Rays had a winning record. Hmmmmm?

Sven, I did not realize, given your lack of erudition, you were so knowlegeable about Baseball. It is almost as likely as you throwing a 102MPH fast-ball!

Now Now Bubba, Sven has been around the block. And the (record) books.

My baseball bud has the Phillies overpowering them. If the Tampa bull pen gets screwy it could mean more comeback wins and a mess for Tampa.

If Tampa takes an early lead they can hang on if starting pitching can last into the 7th.

What happened to Troy Percival? I know he was closing for them earlier in the year....

ken- the phillies closer, brad lidge, may have converted every save chance this year but the reason the american league has home field advantage is Lidge lost the all star game for the national league this year and the reason he left Houston was because he couldn't keep the ball in the park during their play-offs. let's see if he can step up this post season for the phillies.

Percy dropped a bunch of games late in the year and was scratched from post season roster.

Here's one: David Price = Jon Papelbon

That one will remain to be seen Ray :mrlooney:

I think Price has pitched a total of about 14 innings in his career!

Did anybody see the sign they showed a fan holding briefly? It was in the 9th and a guy had a sign that said "Go Rays" or something like that but his buddy had a sign that said "F*** Philly" but the F word was spelled with a Ph. They camera moved quickly. I thought it was funny.

Watch it there buddy... Philly is still my hometown. :) But I am hoping the Rays win!

I was living in St Pete when the franchise started. I remember everynight on the local tv News "Countdown to the Devil Rays".

Rays have an aussie pitcher, I don't think he helped much in game #1 though.

I agree even though I am a STL fan AND that by rooting for TB I am also going to The Dark Side, the AL! LOL

I just thought it was the dumbest thing for them to drop the Devil out of their name, just plain Rays sounds kind of blah (no offense to you Ray!) At least call it the Manta Rays or the Stingrays! Its as bad as in the NBA with Washington dropping Bullets and changing to Wizards.

Ray, I really don't think 10 years qualifies as "perennial.

Now, the Cubbies on the other hand...... :floor:

Eric,

I got so used to that horrible Devil Rays name that the new name sounds great.

Gonzer,

I love the Cubs. When the playoffs started, I was hoping for a Cubs-Rays series.

Since I grew up in central IL you were either a Cubs or Cardinals fan. My family is mostly a Cubs fan so being a Cards fan I was the black sheep. My brother is a ChiSox fan so he was even a blacker sheep. There used to be no real WhSox fans downstate, just Cubs and Cardinals (the big rivalry until interleague play and now Cubs and WhSox can play). After STL was out I was rooting for the Cubs and wanted to see a Chigago Subway series. I at least wanted the Cubs to win since the Sox did in '05 and the Cardinals in '06. The Cubs messed up for '07 and now '08.

BTW, what is up with the scheduling numnutz for MLB? After the Sox won in '05 and the Cards in '06, there was no interleague games between them in '07. You would think they would have scheduled that but they never did.

The one aspect of the Cubs that I admire is that they don't have 'fair-weather' fans. Die hards all the way. They pack 'em into Wrigley win or lose.
