C'mon guys... Could this be more perfect? Not sure it's been so perfect at the coast (marine layer) but I'm enjoying this ideal weather.

Not when you have 3 kids' football games on Sat. from 9AM to 6PM including Vista which was hooooooot. All day in the sun. I got as much sun as my palms.

Bubba and Meg - We have summers where it's cold marine overcast from May to August, barely even hitting 70F. Then you go straight into ultra dry Santa Anas. This 3 years in a row where July and August have been like this.

Epicure - I spent Saturday with a couple of friends demolishing my kitchen. Sledge hammers, crow bars. I had to get a tetanus shot. Having too much fun to notice the heat.

It has been hoooot around here in Riverside... high 90s to 100 every day... most of the plants are lovin it, although some, like the green Ensetes... are not very happy. Still, I'll take hot over winter any day!

It's been a great summer so far in my opinion. Extreme highs staying below the 95F mark is good. Even though we say it's high humidity (50%-60%), it's not high enough to keep stuff from frying in cases of extreme heat, so the summer's been nice so far. But it's September so get ready for some scortching days ahead. That coupled with the dry santa ana wind is gonna be the determining factor wheather plants get too stressed before winter. Hopefully the santa ana season will be mild too.

Been pretty mild at coast for me this summer. Actually one of the more mild summers we've had in some time. (I fix Air Conditioners, I notice.)

I bet I've only been 85F at my place 2 or 3 days this year, and probably only 10 days or so over 80F.

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

I do some experiments and learning in my garden with palms so you don't have to experience the pain! Look at my old threads to find various observations and tips!

It's been hot in N. Calif. too. August was extreamly hot with many days at or above 100 F. Most nightly minimums were in the 60's and a couple only got down to 70F, which is very warm by our standards. Some of my palms looks stressed from the heat. I noticed some of the fronds on Sabal Riverside and some of the Trachs got burned. I get all bent out of shape with my winter temps., but I think I get more damage from the heat than the cold. (fingers crossed). I'm already dreading the approach of winter, but Sept and Oct are two of our nicest months.

I have a feeling Terry's version of high humidity and our version here in the Gulf South are entirely different.

I can't really compete, but I scanned through a week in mid-August at weatherunderground.

Average overall humidity: 73-78%

Average daily maximum humidity: 87-93%

Temps in the mid to upper 80s everyday.

The minimum temp. in Walnut Creek this morning is 48 F. (9 C), the first time this summer the temp. has fallen below 50 F. Highs are forcast to be in the mid to upper 70's the rest of the week which is cooler than normal. Nice weather to work outside.

Dick - Wow! 48 already? Our lows are still in the mid 60s, and it's balmy. If you remember, my winter was equal, if not colder than yours last year. (No complaining, but I dread January)

Still no Santa Anas in sight - with their extreme highs and lows. Palms than normally give me 2 leaves a years are cranking out a Third already - Chambeyronia, Caryotas, Wodyetias.

With the exception of one night in Sept. that dipped below 50F, the rest of the nights have been in the mid 50's F to around 60F. The days have been glorious warm (hot) Sept. days in the upper 80's to just below 100F. This is the nicest time of the year in N. Calif. and the palms love it. I marked my Parajubaea T V T and the Butia X Parajubaea. The emerging spher of the Butia X Parajubaea is growing 1" a night, and the Parajubaea slightly less. (They do all their growing at night and hardly at all during the daytime). The warmth of the days hangs around until well after dark, and it's perfect Bar B Q weather.

The sun angle is droping rapidly and the shadows getting longer, and the light is softer. The first significant front is due to brush by the Bay Area later this week with a slight chance of sprinkles.

Similar story here Dick. The humidity has not let up. It's been warm and muggy continuously. Sounds even hotter up there.
