How palm rich is Thailand? Going through the shadehouse today I noticed that my Kerriodoxa elegans is filling out pretty nicely. What are some of the endemic palms of Thailand?

Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden itself is worth the trip! I understand they currently have the largest collection of palms of the world than any other place, period! Not to mention all the other beautiful plants they have as well.

pohonkelapa - Here's an opportunity for anyone that would love to visit Hawaii and see the palms here plus pick up a few Aloha shirts enroute to Thailand. However, save some space in your luggage because you'll likely want to bring back some of that beautiful Thai silk, whether it be in shirt form or otherwise.

Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean.

No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!).

Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil.

Nice sunsets!

Hi Pilou (Sawad dee krub)

Look lnew but very systematic palm collection.

Picture # 106 in your web seems to be Copernicia macroglossa, not cowellii but healthy.

Have you ever met with Ruud Meeldijk (Hang Dong, Chiengmai) and Jack Ingwersen (Lampang) ?

Send me your email and I will introduce you to them.

Cheers

Love your website even though there is a language barrier. I like Thai architecture and appreciated seeing glimpses in the background. Nice transplant photos also.

Hello again...

My problem is that it doesn't look like macroglossa if I compare with the ones I have... and the dealer in Khamthieng told me thet it's not a macroglossa too...

Another idea ????

Pilou, Wow! What an excellent website, great pictures. Not sure about picture No 70 though. Livistona decipiens has more pendulous leaf tips, these appear very stiff.

Regards Andy.

Bangor, Norin Iron Zone 9a Min temp normally around -3 Degrees C, rarely -6C. Only 2 x -2.0C so far, verging on 9b this year. No snow or Frost this Winter.
