Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

Sorry guys, Correct spelling is Dammaropsis kingiana. It is from mountains of New Guinea. Very hardy and hard to come by. I have one in my yard. Very large tropical looking leaves. Progation is by air layer which is difficult to say the least. Easy to make roots, difficult to root in a container. I get about 10 percent to work on good years. Ron

Matt-yes, that was a  Ficus dammaropsis in Ralph's yard.

Here is one growing in the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens .

Seedlings were available here in North Queensland from a person who goes to PNG often . I wont tell you how much I paid for mine  :laugh:

Whoa...!!!!  This a nice plant!  I have a plant broker trading me for one of these. I hope(and the deal should go through) it comes soon. :D  I only found out about this plant several months ago.

They seem to be more of a shrub than a tree , largest I have seen was only about 3m high [approx 10 ' ] and a bit sparse , but the owner had been attempting to marcot it . Have heard that they prefer to be planted out by themselves and not crowded in with other plants .

Jeff, They are a beautiful tree! Very tropical looking! Very difficult to propagate. I do 10 or so air-layers a year and get to 2 trees. It grows fast in the ground. 5-6 feet a year.Ron
