Hey all,

Normally I consider the big box store..well, I'll keep my negative opinions to myself. But I do always look thru the palm section to break up the trip. I noticed yesterday a shipment of "tropical foliage" at the Balboa location fo $15. Included in the mix were really nice 3 gallon Acoelorrhaphe w. (Everglades palm) and healthy Brahea armatas. Just thought it was a good value and wanted to pass it along.

Paul,

You being the King of Snarkness, I can't tell if you are joking or not... :P

Our HD in Huntington Beach had these for about a month now. They were $15.00, but I think they just discounted them to $11.99. So tempted to getting another one, but do not know where to put them. They also had Bizmarkis in 5 gal for under $30. All the palms are coming from Palm Acres in SD...

Nope. There were right in front of the store last night, 8-10 of 'em. (Along with Meds & Braheas). Even labeled as Everglades palm. They were not in the garden section. Hate to send you on a wild goose chase..

HD Santa Ana (SR-55 at Edinger) had this same selection about a month and a half ago. Although the young bizzies are red, they are the silver variety, per Palm Acres. I planted one Everglades palm in the back yard, and it has thrown two new fronds already. Just keep in mind that it clusters/suckers. I planted a Palm Acres baby bizzie in the front lawn, and it is now throwing its first silver fronds. You can't beat their price for these.

I was at Home Depot yesterday and saw the Acoelorrhaphes. I picked one up, and also grabbed 10 New Guinea Impatience hybrids. $6.95 for big 2 gallon ones, and the claim is they can take full sun, being crossed with wild impatience. This is a great plant to grow around palms. My wife was kind of shocked I came home with a car load of pink, red and orange flowers!

I like those new guinea impatiens, but they usually die on me. Good luck.

The plant I got was not the normal New Guinea Impatiens. Here's what the label says:

#2 Viva! - SunPatiens

Impatiens hawkeri x spp

A cross between a New Guinea and a wild Impateins, the plants have a stronger vigor allowing them to grow well in all summer conditions. Flowers 2" wide: red, orange, white, purple. Heat loving but don't let dry out.

........

I guess that last line is the tricky part?

I'm trying these out in our court yard planter. Looking good so far. They have been there for a few weeks now.
