My Mayotte's trip

Recommended Posts

Hi friends :)

Here are some pics I took during my last trip in Mayotte. Sadly, we had bad weather conditions (summer = hurricanes...) thus I couldn't go every where i wanted (damn I need english lessons). Hope you'll enjoy :)

Short time after takeoff rny 30 from Gillot airport FMEE (standart west SID, I know lot of you love aviation too ;)). You can see the south part of the main city, Saint Denis, and the famous (and dangerous) road near the shore. That road is often close during heavy rains. Cyclonic tide and falling rocks kill each years... A new project for the road is in preparation, something like creating a new road "on the water"... Well, nothing before 2020, minimum :D

Here is a former crater, now a volcanic lake. It is located on the smaler island: Dzaoudzi.

Beach near Kani. As you can see, the water is not really clear. Because

of the rains... Yes, that was hard for us to see turtles, but we did!

Wow,

Looks like a beautiful island. Palms, mountains, and clear blue water; it doesn't get much better than that.

Thank you all :)

Bubba, Mayotte Island is located in the Mozambique Channel, between Madagascar and Mozambique. It's an island from Comoros. It's the only french island in the Comoros, all others are independant.

Thanks for those pictures. I wondered what Mayotte looked like. I beleive that there are some Dypsis species on Mayotte found nowhere else. It would be wonderful to go walking through the forests there. What a beautiful lagoon.

Best regards

thanks for this, just breathtaking views from up top. The palm you "forgot" is a Borassus. On the island did you see any Bismarckia? I would love to see some of the native ones there to compare with what we are growing from the mainland and in cultivation.

Exact! Borassus! That's it :)

Sadly i did not see any Bismarckia. I will ask my brother if he took pics of them, I know he saw them during his trip in Mayotte.

Thanks for all the great photos, including the aviation related photos! :) That's a very beautiful place! Just curious, are you involved in aviation yourself (since you mention the ICAO code for Saint Denis - - not something that would be known by the average traveller...).

Hi Bgl!

Well i'm not involved in aviation yet. But I spend lot of time on simulations (X plane, FS...) and flew some times on little french props and ULM (ultra lights) with friends. I'll try to have a lisence soon or later... but it's not a really cheap occupation :/

Interesting! And yes, I'm sure it can get expensive. Good luck with the licence!
