Maybe it's the King of all palms. Now that's different. Only the Emperor of all palms would be more.

I don't believe it! $4,000 for a you-dig-it king palm??? I was offered $1400 for my 2 coconuts with the curved trunks and he would dig it. Something is really out of wack here.

Craigs' list is full of scammers! Like a few people have said, he's either identified the palm incorrectly, or he's looking for a fool! But you know what they say, "There's one born every minute"!!! Besides, a King palm (Bangalow) is chancy at best w/ surviving transplant without root-pruning.

but too much is never enough!!

I payed 29.00 for this one i did not have to dig it up.

I am constantly seeing people selling the landscaping right out of their yard. Many times it looks like they are trying to sell anything and everything before the bank becomes the new owner.

Mad about palms

Believe it or not....we have a nurseryman up here in the Bay area who moved a huge Jubaea to his nursery and planted it. It has to be 40 feet or more and it's beautiful and in perfect health. He was offered 60K and turned it down. I have no idea how much it cost him to move it to its present location, but it was a major undertaking.

i have a bunch of 5 gallons i cant literally give away! i must be in the wrong market!

People's audacity in this regard is boundless.

I once had a couple tell me they'd let me dig Trachy sprouts for $20 each . . . . (small seedlings)

I politely declined -- :floor: -- then peed myself laughing in the car home . . . .

I do some experiments and learning in my garden with palms so you don't have to experience the pain! Look at my old threads to find various observations and tips!

My favorite tree mover routinely buys CIDPs taller than that for about $1,000.00. It's costly to dig them up, crane them to his nursery, put them in the ground, and take care of them while they wait to be purchased by someone. Then the process begins again to get the huge palm to its new home. By then, the homeowner will need to shell out about $8,000 to $10,000.00 delivered and planted.

I've gotten King palms with 8 feet of fat trunk free for the taking. I've been lucky enough to never lose one after transplanting. That Craig's List ad is silly.

I called him and set him straight in a nice way. His friend told him that it was a king palm but it isn't. From the description he gave me I believe it to be a canary. He is emailing me a photo so I can ID it for him and tell him the TRUE value of the tree. It's funny but I'd rather help him out than mock him. You can't blame people that are uninformed.

Palm freaks are good peeps!!!!!

I get calls every day of people trying to sell their palm trees. You must understand that people often think they are sitting on a "gold mine". They hear stories about what someone paid for their palm. And, they want that money. I get so many calls that I wrote an article to fend off the phone traffic:

I want to sell my large palm tree Most people seem to just read the title of the artricle and call me. If they just read for about 10 seconds, they would see I don't dig specimen palms. .

You will note that, in California, dug King Palms have a very high mortality. That limits their value tremendously as they are such a risk. Out here, few if any relocators have the experience of Ken Johnson and tend to be guys who "have crane; will dig". And, we don't have the greenhouse environment that one sees in Souther Florida. So, one could spend money on a King and get nothing but an additional charge for its later removal.

Re this ad, remember that if you fish for suckers, sometimes you'll catch a big one.
