Dear Friends :)

A week a ago i got 'superthrive' vitamin supplement liquid delivered to me by my indian friend working in U.S.while comming back home,he brought this bottle of superthrive which i had requested him long back.

i have read comments about it from our members especially Negil who said this has zero effect on Phoenix species of palms..

And i also recollect Matt using this wonder liquid on his palms and had also given illustrations on his experiment ! Dear Matt,is this stuff working for you...?

And my superthrive was also purschased from amazon.com site.

if you have to say or make a comment on this product as to wheather it worked for your palms...kindly share with me and all our forum friends.and if it's working then on which plam species responds well to this vitamin doasge..

And when i opened the plastic envelop in which this item was placed smelled like some pharmacy store...very pungent & bitter in smell.it is very similar in smell to the 'B-Complex' Capsule that my dad takes with his heat aliment scheduled medicines...? What iam asking is once when this superthrive is over, can i use his B-complex capsules as substitute in feeding my palm saplings every month or so ?(and iam not joking about it).since i have to wait for another year.since only then my friends will come back from the U.S.And this product is dam costly for a layman like me to buy every month.since iam growing palms not to start a nursery, where one could sell or make profit.

So are their any vitamin tablets which can be bought in local drug store, which might actually do work of superthrive.

And i have started using this on my palms...when can i see changes,is their any time frame for that.

And kindly do not mistake me for not answering you each & every post, since i want to keep it to the point.and not convert these threads into general discussion type ! So your answers & experiences with this product is much awaited.

thanks & love,

Kris :)

Kris...Are you using a control group? The only way to know if this stuff works would be to have similar plants as a control group that are not treated, and compare the two after some time has passed.

I hope you will keep us posted on the results

Hi Kris.

You appear in the photo the advertiser's product, very good.

I have the product and what I used in my experiment of Borassus, them well.

This morning I put on the drum to drip into a freshly planted Rophalostylis, now, very hot climate. I hope that help the product.

There was someone who put a post comparing several plants with this product and without it ... But never knew that happened.

A greeting

Kris - I use it. Every fourth feeding of my orchids I add superthrive. Orchid growers us it so I figure, why not hit the palms with it? Good results, recommend soaking your bare root acquisitions with it before potting up. :)

Dear Ron :)

Very useful suggestions...i will try in days to come ! till now just twice i used it on potted palms.and i have not seen any special effect though. But diluted Di-Amonium-Phosphate works fine for me as a complete palm fertilizer.

Thanks & Love,

Kris :)

Kris, I've been using this for ten years or so, only use three drops per gallon, don't spray it, it can damage some flowers, if sprayed on, Ed

Kris, I love the photo of you pointing to the product! You don't look very excited though.

I use vitimin B on any transplants. It's supposed to reduce shock. It's cheap, about $4 for 1 gallon of concentrate.

Kris, be carefull with this stuff! Like edric said, about 3 or 4 drops per gallon is all you need. I used 1 teaspoon per gallon a few years ago and burned some of my p. roebelinis to death. I have been using a few drops per gallon like suggested for some time now and haven't seen much, if any results. At this rate though your bottle should last the rest of your life. Good luck with it. In my opinion you will not see imediate results if any :( . The vitamin supplements help to stimulate root development (as told to me by an orchid maven). The results should be a healthy robust palm over time. :greenthumb: Happy roots = happy palm! :)

I have no data to support this claim. Just something that works for me.

I use ST since about 2 weeks. And I have to tell you ... surprising result.

My XXL Phoenix dactylifera in our Garden seems to be frozen and dead after an extremly cold winter in Germany (- 25°C).

For 2 weeks I have been mixing ST with the water ... it is clear to me that the woody feathers will never turn into green, but in the middle of the palm shaft you may look to a minimum new green. Should it work, it is amazing. The same happened with my L. hoehnei. After a long shipment (12 days without sun and water) I thought the plant dies ... :( All feathers were woody, that looked terrible ...

On the official Superthrive website of Europe they offer 2 products: Palmbooster and Superthrive; not sure of which difference they are but I heard of some specialists, ST is of higher concentration.

By the way ... ST includes not only vitamins but hormons, too. Seems to be a successful mix, plants are growing faster.

I am pleased with the first results ...

This is what I would expect. Adding Auxin or any hormone to a plant in a perfect climatic match is less likley to have as much impact as manipulating plants that are not climatically happy.

I tried using the active ingredient of ST/PB on my palms, but did not notice much difference. In my case, this is almost certainly because I used it only a few times, and on palms that were neglected and underfed. In hindsight there was neve much chance of huge gowth response. Also the palms I used it on are basically well suited to my climate. These products manipulate the hormonal balance, resulting in growth as if the palm is in a better climate.

Kris, I would not expect much more growth than what you already get in your hot wet climate!

My palm experiments were not dramatic, but ONE SINGLE application to Dendrocalamus latiflorus had dramatic results. Here is the new bud growth on this tropical bamboo, growing in a climate that is far colder than it is happy with. This amount of new shoots has not occured before or since.

I would be interested to see what else could be done with hormonal manipulation, but no longer do this sort of thing since pursuing organic certification. Willow water, perhaps?

Dear Friends :)

Thanks for your help & suggestions...And i will certainly keep all your warnings in my mind when i use this product. And at the moment its summer time here,i do not add anything to my watering schedule.only when i see some rains comming or in late winters.Since in our hot climate any new addatives does burn our palms very badly..I have that experience before !

Lots of love to you all,

Kris :)

Anyone have any ill effects using Superthrive too often?

I don't, I usually only use it when I transplant or do a big dig up.

Great question Scott!!!

I've noticed a few odd things on some indoor palms and can't help but think since I was adding drops of Superthrive to gallon jugs of water I use that maybe it was too much.

Think I will switch to the bare root palms I order when I get them or when trying to germinate seeds.

Even in people too much fat soluble vitamins aren't good for you in larger does.

I've used it in control groups with palms, Tillandsias, and bromeliads for onwards of 2 years both as a foliar feed and a drench. No noticeable results of any kind. At least not to justify the price. A lot of wishful thinking surrounds the product.
